Liverpool can sign a midfielder even better than Alex Scott for £50m
Alex Scott has been one of Liverpool's main targets ever since Andoni Iraola was brought in.
The Spaniard managed to turn Scott into one of the Premier League's best defensive midfielders despite him only being 23 years old.
Scott knows Iraola's system like the back of his hand and, during their time together at Bournemouth, the two often spoke highly of one another.
At the moment, one of Liverpool's main issues is their midfield so, if Iraola can bring someone in who already knows his system, it would make things much easier.
That's why, of all the recent midfielders linked with an Anfield switch, Scott has been the most talked-about.
However, after the latest update to emerge from L4, an even better option for Liverpool may have just made himself known.
Liverpool could sign Lamine Camara for just £50 million
Lamine Camara is another midfielder who has been linked with Liverpool recently.
The Senegal international was moments away from joining Chelsea at the end of the summer transfer window but, for one reason or another, AS Monaco pulled out of the deal at the last minute.
This then led to many different rumours emerging with Ben Jacobs even saying that Liverpool told the Ligue 1 outfit to wait until January before selling him as they'd like to get involved in the race then.
But, since the Reds have needed a new number six since Fabinho exited in 2023, it's unclear whether they'll actually make a move for him or not.
Many different rumours have started to emerge and now, Paul Gorst has shared how much the Reds would have to pay if they wanted to sign Camara instead of Scott.
"Maybe Lamine Camara is the next one Liverpool are going to look at if it’s a midfielder," he said to The Redmen TV.
"It was a fairly reasonable fee at the time, £45-50m, which is the sort of ballpark figure Liverpool used to do so well.
"I don’t really see them paying £100m for Alex Scott."
Lamine Camara would solve a lot of Liverpool's midfield issues
As mentioned, Camara has long been linked with a Liverpool switch.
Him and Mamadou Sangare were the two main Ligue 1 midfielders linked with a move to Anfield this summer but, in the end, a deal for neither of them came to fruition.
This led to many questions being asked about the Reds' plans for their future with fans left wondering how they were going to deal with another season of having just four central midfielders among their ranks.
At times, the four midfielders that Liverpool have among their ranks have worked well together but, the fact that Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch can't play together in a double pivot is a major issue.
Their lack of compatibility has been made clear more than once this term which is why someone such as Camara would be perfect.
Of course, Scott, who'd cost Liverpool around £100 million would be another ideal addition but, for half the price, Camara feels like the much better option.
Indeed, Liverpool would still have to solve their homegrown issues but, on the face of things, a £50 million deal for the Senegal international is just too good to turn down.
