Liverpool can hijack €120m transfer from Premier League rivals
Liverpool look like they're going to be one of the busiest teams in the Premier League this summer.
Last term, the Reds spent over £400 million on new players with fans thinking that they'd turn into the best team in the world.
Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz were both expected to contribute to Mohamed Salah's class and elevate the Reds' attack massively.
This clearly wasn't the case with Isak constantly injured and Wirtz looking like he had no idea what was happening.
So, since Liverpool have a new manager at the helm with new ideas, many changes are expected to occur with the Reds seemingly lining themselves up to hijack a deal from one of their Premier League rivals.
Liverpool are now showing an interest in signing Sandro Tonali
Sandro Tonali is one of the most talked-about players in the world at the moment.
Since the summer window opened, Tottenham have had their fair share of links with new players with Tonali topping their priority list.
Roberto de Zerbi is clearly doing everything in his power to improve Spurs' squad and avoid yet another relegation battle.
Tonali would help solidify their midfield massively but, since he's a rather solid player, other clubs are making a deal difficult to agree upon.
And, even though Liverpool haven't been linked with a move yet, the latest report from La Gazzetta dello Sport has just changed that.
"With safety secured, De Zerbi has received assurances of a top-notch transfer market from the Spurs board," they wrote.
"A significant investment is ready, as recommended by the Brescian coach, who has put the midfielder, who won the Italian title with AC Milan in 2022, at the top of his list of preferences.
"Newcastle, however, has no intention of cutting corners and is aiming to make a substantial capital gain compared to the €65 million they paid the Rossoneri three years ago.
"The starting price is €100 million, but given the interest expressed by other big clubs (Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United), the €120 million mark could easily be breached."
Sandro Tonali would be a great acquisition for Liverpool
One area that Liverpool really struggled in during the 2025-26 season was their midfield.
Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister played rather poorly which led to many mistakes being made.
One of the Reds' main problems was the lack of defensive work they put in which is why a new number six is certainly on the table.
Adam Wharton and Eduardo Camavinga are the most likely players to join but, if the Reds can hijack Spurs' move for Tonali, the €120 million they could end up spending on him would be well worth it.
He's been one of Newcastle's best players over the last couple of years and, while they didn't perform that well during the 2025-26 season, the Italy international was one of their best performers.
Indeed, €120 million is a lot of money but, for a number six with a wealth of Premier League experience and who's still only 26 years old, it feels like it could be a smart deal for Richard Hughes and Andoni Iraola to get over the line.
