Liverpool have beaten Chelsea in the transfer race to an exciting signing with a sudden late offer.

The rivalry with the Blues has been a recent one for the Reds. Or at least relatively recent in the history of English football.

It's not since those battles with Jose Mourinho back in 2004 and 2005 that Liverpool have genuinely had an intense battle with the Blues on and off the pitch.

This has included big signings, with Chelsea trying to lure Steven Gerrard, and then taking Fernando Torres and Raul Meireles to Stamford Bridge.

And then it culminated to transfer battles. Mo Salah was stolen from Liverpool's grasp in 2014, when Chelsea beat them to his signature.

Liverpool thought they signed Moises Caicedo but again Chelsea swooped in and took him away.

To make matters worse, Chelsea then signed Liverpool's alternative option to Caicedo, bringing in Romeo Lavia.

Liverpool really liked the Belgian midfielder then at Southampton and Chelsea didn't really have a need for Lavia, but they did it anyway. Just to spite Liverpool, who tried to gazump them for Caicedo.

This has always been a frustrating pattern for the Reds. But it is changing.

Liverpool are now beating Chelsea to deals

But that's changed recently. Liverpool have started to get their revenge.

For example, Chelsea were keen on Hugo Ekitike last summer but it was Liverpool who won the race for his signature. The Blues also wanted to sign Jeremy Jacquet but again Liverpool beat them to the race securing the defender's signature in the January window.

Chelsea will have been frustrated by those deals. Especially because one of the key recruitment decision makers at the club is Dave Fallows, who spent a long time working as a scout for Liverpool.

Now Xabi Alonso is also working at the club, even though he was a target to replace Arne Slot at Anfield.

Not to mention Chelsea also brought in Jordan Henderson, a Liverpool club legend as an experienced player to have among their ranks.

But they will have been frustrated by Liverpool again.

Over the last few years, Chelsea have made it clear they want to recruit the best young players across the planet.

With BlueCo's acquisition of Strasbourg, Chelsea now have a breeding ground for their best talents before bringing them back to Stamford Bridge.

One of these was Djylian N'Guessan, who was on Chelsea's radar. The Blues even made an €8m offer for him as per L'Equipe via Get French Football News.

But that was rejected.

It was instead Liverpool who have beaten the Blues to his signing with a sudden late offer in the final few hours of the window.

The Frenchman is now coming to Anfield with Fabrizio Romano reporting that it's already a 'here we go.'

Out of nowhere, Liverpool have their man again. Just like it was with Jacquet in the last window.
