Andoni Iraola makes transfer demand to Liverpool board
The discourse around Liverpool’s performances this season has cantered around one area of the team, the midfield.
Andoni Iraola is nine matches into his tenure in the Anfield dugout, and so far his side have struggled to find consistency.
The Reds’ only defeat of the season was a humiliating collapse to Manchester City at home in their most recent Premier League outing, but the team already find themselves nine points behind the league leaders and behind the likes of Everton, Hull and Leeds.
Iraola seems to have figured out how to solidify Liverpool’s backline for the most part, with Jeremy Jacquet and Virgil van Dijk forming an impressive partnership, but the Reds’ midfield has looked worryingly poor.
Iraola makes demand to fix Liverpool’s midfield
The biggest problem the midfield have faced this campaign is looking unbalanced.
Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Florian Wirtz and Ryan Gravenberch have been relied upon for the majority of minutes, but the midfield looked most effective when James McConnell and Trey Nyoni were deployed in the double pivot.
It is clear that a fresh face is needed in Liverpool’s midfield, and Iraola reportedly has a candidate in mind.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, the Spaniard has made it clear to Liverpool’s board that he would ‘love’ to add Bournemouth’s Alex Scott to his side.
The Englishman played under Iraola for the Cherries, and recent reports suggest he could be available in January if an attractive enough offer is submitted.
The report does state that Iraola was aiming for the move to take place next summer, but heavy interest from Chelsea could force the Reds to take action in the winter window.
The Blues are confident in their pursuit of Scott according to the report, but many believe that Iraola’s connection with the player could give Liverpool the upper hand if they were to match any bid from West London.
If the report is genuine, and Iraola has made Scott a top priority for Liverpool recruitment team, then it feels like it could just be a matter of time before the Englishman is calling Anfield home.
