Liverpool aren't waiting: Push to agree €70m deal just days after transfer deadline

Liverpool aren't waiting around to sort their midfield. They're pushing for a deal already, just days after the transfer deadline.

Should Liverpool have sorted their midfield in the summer? Yes. There's a very simple answer to that and it's 'yes'.

The Reds lacked control in the middle throughout last season and it felt near-certain that they'd sort the issue as soon as possible. Instead, he watched in awe as Liverpool failed to land a midfielder and instead sold one in Curtis Jones.

They never replaced the Scouser, something that left them both up against their foreign-player limit and short on numbers. They're essentially praying that Trey Nyoni and James McConnell kick on and prove themselves as Premier League players this season just to have the numbers.

Strangely, Liverpool clearly know they need a midfielder. They simply didn’t address the problem during the transfer window.

Or rather they did. Ben Jacobs reports that Liverpool made a call to AS Monaco and Lamine Camara just before the deadline shut. They wanted to let both club and player know that there would be interest to sign them in 2027 for the full asking price.

And by 2027 they seem to have actually meant “day one”. Liverpool are reportedly pushing for this Camara deal right now, having already agreed terms with the player.

That’s according to Indykaila, who consistently got Liverpool’s transfer business correct across the window. He claims there’s movement already and that the Reds want this deal closed far ahead of January.

It’s a strange one but does make some sense. There’s lots of interest in Camara and that interest will only grow if his performances keep up. Liverpool lacked the money to get anything done in the summer but will have the funds for January - agreeing the deal in advance locks him and removes any chance of a hijacking.

Or, it should be said, the asking price raising above the €70m Jacobs claims. Liverpool appear incredibly confident in Camara as a player and that confidence will tell them that the race to sign him will only intensify in the coming months.
