Liverpool agree €55m transfer for their next right-back

The right-back problem will no longer be a headache for Andoni Iraola.

There's a fair argument to make that Liverpool's lack of right-back options likely cost Arne Slot his job last season.

Sure, there were a multitude of reasons why Slot failed. But not replacing Trent Alexander-Arnold was probably the most costly impact on the team that won the Premier League title.

Without Alexander-Arnold, the Reds lost their creative guile going forward. Without him, they also lost a player who could reliably play most games throughout the season.

Instead, Slot had to play Jeremie Frimpong in the role, considering he was Liverpool's replacement for Trent.

That move, it's fair to say, has been a disaster with Dominik Szoboszlai taking over from Frimpong to finish off last season.

Connor Bradley's expected return from injury

Obviously things would have been a lot more different had Bradley been available. But his horrific injury suffered against Arsenal last season ruled him out for the majority of the campaign.

There's no denying Bradley is a phenomenal player on his day. However, he is far too injury prone. Over the course of the last four seasons on average he has missed around 15-20 games every campaign in all competitions for the Reds.

Liverpool simply cannot rely on a player who tends to pick up so many injury problems.

Right now, Bradley's currently undergoing rehabilitation on his latest knee injury, which was a severe one. At the moment, he is doing some individual ball-work but he is still a long way away from coming back.

Iraola has urged caution. The expectation is that Bradley will only make his comeback for the Reds towards the end of the year at the very best case.

Iraola seems to have cracked the code though. The Spaniard has figured out what Slot failed to figure out, and in fairness the recruitment team had addressed one of Liverpool's main issues.

The Reds didn't spend a single penny on Ronald Araujo's arrival this summer. It was a deal despite his pedigree that didn't look favourable for Liverpool because of the urgency with which Barcelona got rid of him.

But Araujo has not only settled in brilliantly at the club, he has made the right-back position his own. Since he started playing there Liverpool have three clean-sheets in a row in the Premier League.

At this rate, Araujo is heading towards being Liverpool's new right-back, and the good thing is the Reds have already agreed a transfer to sign him.

They have a buy option of €55m they can activate after his loan, which is looking like a bargain.
