Julian Ward willing to let Liverpool star go
Julian Ward has a lot of decisions to make about Liverpool ahead of his first transfer window as their sporting director.
The Englishman took over the role from Richard Hughes after he chose to join Al-Hilal upon the completion of the 2026-27 summer transfer window.
Liverpool have already spent well over £150 million this season so, any other additions will need to be worthwhile.
Many different players have been linked with an Anfield switch but, with how poor Liverpool have been this term, they must make sure that every signing they agree is one that makes sense.
Even if that means some of their own players are going to have be put on the chopping block.
Liverpool are happy to let Federico Chiesa exit Anfield in January
Federico Chiesa is one of the most likely players to leave Liverpool this January.
The attacker has only been given a few minutes of playing time by Andoni Iraola and, since Arne Slot failed to give him all that much either, it's clear that the end of his time in L4 is upon us.
Of course, there have been some moments when he's stood out from the crowd but, he's failed to make enough of an impact to keep his place.
His exit has been discussed for some time now with Inter Milan being linked with the Italian's transfer once again.
"Inter are considering a move for Liverpool winger Federico Chiesa as they look to add a fifth forward to their squad in the January transfer window," Tribuna wrote.
"According to Tribuna.com sources, the Italian winger is emerging as one of the options being considered by the Nerazzurri. Chiesa has struggled for regular playing time at Liverpool and could be open to returning to Serie A.
"Liverpool would be willing to discuss a loan deal with an option to buy, with the permanent transfer fee set at around €8-10 million."
Liverpool must make sure they have enough depth in attack to sell Federico Chiesa
At the moment, most of Liverpool's injuries have happened to their attackers.
Cody Gakpo and Alexander Isak have both spent extended time on the sidelines this term and, while others such as Lewis Koumas and Rio Ngumoha are preferred over him, it's still nice for Liverpool to know that they have someone who's scored 83 goals across his career on their bench.
However, much like Slot, Iraola has chosen against giving Chiesa a decent amount of playing time so, it's clear that he's not in his immediate plans.
But, despite this, if a massive injury crisis occurs, the Reds need to be sure that they have enough firepower to continue shooting themselves up the table.
If not, they could go into free fall and end up even worse off than they were last term which is something that they certainly won't want to happen.
