Ultimately, clashes with Jurgen Klopp over the pair's diverging visions for the football club meant Ward resigned from his role. But it didn't take him long to return.

He officially left his position in the summer of 2023, but just over 12 months later, he was back after Klopp had announced his departure.

Over the last two years, he's been working in the background, assisting things at recruitment level and now gets the chance to step-up.

Liverpool's mission to revive Milos Kerkez

When the Hungarian arrived at the club, he was regarded as the best young player in his position not only in the Premier League but in European football.

Kerkez didn't have it easy, entering the club at a horrific time with everyone reeling from the tragedy of Diogo Jota's death. Then came a brutal season as Arne Slot struggled to get the best out of his team.

In that time, Kerkez was often unfairly labelled as a scapegoat and received a lot of harsh criticism that was simply not warranted.

Now with his former coach at Bournemouth Andoni Iraola at the club, it's very apparent that the Hungarian is getting back to his best.

That doesn't mean that he won't be getting anymore competition. Julian Ward is seemingly now lining up his replacement.

Liverpool lining up Peyton Miller to replace Milos Kerkez

Kerkez is definitely regarded as Liverpool's long-term option. He is young, and has been making steps in the right directions under Iraola.

However, it looks like long-term Ward is already lining up a move for replace the Hungarian in the future.

According to TEAMtalk Liverpool are one of the clubs very interested in USMNT international Peyton Miller. The club's scouts even attended USA's most recent game to watch Miller in action, and were impressed by what they saw.

The 18-year-old has 11 goal contributions (seven goals and four assists) this season in just 25 matches. In total he has 18-goal contributions across his career for New England in just over 60 games.

These are extremely impressive numbers for a left-back, and Miller does seem like an exciting talent. He's someone who could come in and push Kerkez for a starting spot, before ultimately succeeding the Hungarian in the future
