Jeremie Frimpong's time as a Liverpool player has been rather varied.

The Dutchman was brought in last summer for around £30 million with most fans believing that he'd be a perfect replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Each right-back had an impressive attacking output and, even though neither of them were the best defenders, the fact that Frimpong was an awful lot quicker than Alexander-Arnold excited fans.

And, while the Dutchman's speed has been one of the best things about him, his poor defensive work is really starting to shine through.

This has led to Ronald Araujo becoming Liverpool's first-choice right-back with the club looking for ways to bolster that position in the future.

Liverpool want to sign AS Roma star Wesley to reinforce their right-back

As mentioned, right-back was a major problem for Liverpool last term.

This led to one of Andoni Iraola's main focuses being to reinforce his right-back and, while he's managed to do that with Araujo, the fact that he's only on loan is a bit of a problem.

Of course, Liverpool have an option to buy the Uruguayan but, by the time they can activate it, he'll be 28 years old and, it's unclear whether the Reds will want to shell out the entire £47 million for him.

Many other players have been brought up as potential options and now, according to TuttoMercatoWeb, a Serie A star has found his way onto Liverpool's shortlist.

"Jeremie Frimpong was then brought in, but the consensus in the Melwood offices is that a reinforcement is needed in the position," they wrote.

"This is why Juventus' Pierre Kalulu is among the Reds' shortlisted names . Kalulu is popular for his versatility and technical and athletic qualities, and is among the top names on Liverpool's radar.

"He's not the only one: Roma's Brazilian Wesley , who has been closely monitored in the Giallorossi's recent league outings, is also in the mix."

Jeremie Frimpong could easily be replaced by Wesley

If Liverpool didn't have Araujo among their ranks, they'd probably be using Dominik Szoboszlai at right-back.

And, while he may have done well when used there last term, it's clear that his skillset is much better suited to the centre of the park.

That way, he can drive forward and defend when needed while also providing another option to the attackers in case they get into any trouble.

Indeed, a lot of the work that Liverpool's full-backs need to do is to bomb up and down the wings but, if they have no end product then, there's not much point.

Wesley is a 23-year-old Brazilian who has quickly become a fan favourite in Rome.

Last season he featured in 39 games across all competitions for the Serie A outfit while managing to contribute to seven goals.

Of course, him being a similar age and profile to Frimpong means that the Dutchman would probably have to be moved on to sign him but, if Liverpool can get a good price for him, Wesley could be exactly what they need.
