Liverpool have a chance at a 'swap' of free transfers. And it's to replace Ibrahima Konate.

Ibrahima Konate is on track to leave Liverpool at the end of the season. His contract will expire and there's now a little over a month to run on it.

Time is running out, in other words, before Liverpool enter a difficult situation. Losing Konate would be a blow but it would also hit the club financially - there isn't an immediate senior replacement in the squad, so one would have to arrive.

But Liverpool would need to make that signing without any incoming money from Konate's departure. Replacing him is a massive net loss, then, and without any guarantee that the player coming in is actually an improvement.

That's why moving for a free transfer may be the way to go. The obvious one is Marcos Senesi, who will leave Bournemouth at the end of the season.

We've long had him down as an ideal candidate for Liverpool - one who could transform their backline in the right setup. And if Konate truly is to leave for nothing, that kind of transformation is exactly what the team needs.

Replacing the Frenchman like-for-like is virtually impossible for any reasonable fee. Senesi, then, moves things into something new and at the price tag Liverpool need.

Marcos Senesi: Situation Summary

Bournemouth Performance and Stats

As of 16 May 2026, Marcos Senesi is concluding a standout individual campaign with Bournemouth, who sit sixth in the Premier League. The 29-year-old Argentina international has been a mainstay under Andoni Iraola, making 37 appearances across all competitions. He has helped anchor a defence that has kept 11 clean sheets during a remarkable 16-match unbeaten streak.

Confirmed Summer Departure

Bournemouth officially confirmed on 15 May that Senesi will leave the club as a free agent this June after rejecting multiple contract extension offers. Having made 124 appearances on the south coast, he will be celebrated by the club following their final home match against Manchester City on Tuesday.

Transfer Speculation

As a highly sought-after left-footed defender, Senesi has reportedly agreed personal terms with Tottenham Hotspur, though a move depends on Spurs avoiding relegation. Juventus, Barcelona, and Liverpool are also tracking him, while Chelsea sources have downplayed their initial interest.
