Guess who? Liverpool's surprise target confirmed

We appear to have confirmation of the surprise winger target Fabrizio Romano teased. An interesting one, too.

Liverpool are in the market for a new winger or two. Maybe even three - who knows at this stage? The Reds were weak on the flanks last season but have been slow to address the problem.

A lot of that is that they pushed for Yan Diomande but lost out. Another factor was the World Cup, which put a pause on many transfers, especially those in the top bracket.

Bradley Barcola is one of those, but he's expected to complete his move to Liverpool on Sunday. However, the Reds are after more than just Barcola and there's no question that they need someone for the right.

Mohamed Salah was the only out-and-out right-winger at the club last season and he left on a free transfer. Liverpool are yet to replace him, too, but we expect that to change late in the window.

They've been linked with the likes of Ismaila Sarr and Yankuba Minteh for big-money moves, but Fabrizio Romano has teased a 'surprise' option. In other words, someone who hasn't yet been placed on the long, long list of potential signings.

Now we may have a clue as to who that player is.

Jamie Leweling to Liverpool?

Journalist Patrick Berger reports that Liverpool do hold an interest in Stuttgart's Jamie Leweling. The German has been heavily linked with a move to AS Roma this summer but the Italians have seen their latest offer rejected.

But it seems there's a host of clubs looking at Leweling. Interestingly, Everton are one of those as they look to boost their wing options after agreeing to sell Iliman Ndiaye to Tottenham Hotspur.

You'd like to think that Liverpool could out-bid any potential rival for Leweling, especially if Roma's initial offer was a €5m loan with a €40m obligation to buy. But the Reds do have plenty of potential targets right now.

Whether they have plenty of good potential targets is another matter and Leweling is certainly a surprise one. It feels as though Liverpool have been linked with every right-winger under the sun, but this is a new link.

It promises to be a very interesting couple of days, then. Leweling appears to be the surprise name Romano hinted at - though, we won't be shocked if more crop up.
