Liverpool are facing contract uncertainty over Curtis Jones.

The 25-year-old last renewed his deal when he was a squad player under Jurgen Klopp back in 2022. The scale of that deal represented his status as a rotation option - taking him through to the summer of 2027.

Over time however Jones has grown in importance - winning a second Premier League title in the 2024/25 season. Liverpool have been unwilling or unable to meet his demands for a new contract - leading to speculation that he will be sold.

Inter want Jones deal

This summer is Liverpool’s last chance to make some money on the homegrown schemer before he leaves for free in 2027.

Inter Milan have been active in negotiations for the Scouse playmaker but have so far stubbornly refused to meet Richard Hughes’ €40m asking price.

If the Nerazzurri don’t get their act together then they risk losing out on Jones - who is also a target for Galatasaray and Juventus.

Nottingham Forest bow out of Jones race

And Premier League interest has been mooted at Nottingham Forest - although it is unlikely that Jones would swap Anfield for the City Ground.

Now comes a claim from Football Insider that the Tricky Trees don’t see Jones as a transfer priority. Oliver Glasner’s side have conducted a shrewd deal for Xaver Schlager with the Austria international arriving on a free.

And they are currently testing Tottenham’s resolve over Lucas Bergvall.

Jones could now stay if Inter bid fails to materialise

“Forest had been seriously considering a move for Curtis Jones, but sources have told Football Insider that the Liverpool star has fallen down the pecking order of potential signings,” the report reads.

For Liverpool fans who want Jones to stay at the club this can only be good news. Right now it appears as though Inter are the only genuine contenders for Jones’ signature. And they are having trouble in reaching the valuation.

The chances of the player remaining on Merseyside are therefore increasing - with another suitor for his signature removed from the running.

Let’s see what happens from here on in. We could see Jones stay beyond the window closing on September 1 and even sign a new contract if he proves himself to new head coach Andoni Iraola.
