Get it done, Real Madrid star can excel under Andoni Iraola

Get the deal done - one Real Madrid star would thrive at Liverpool under Andoni Iraola. He's available on the cheap, too.

Liverpool need a midfielder. That was clear last season and it's abundantly clear now - they have essentially built a group of midfielders who largely do the same thing.

There's a good reason for that, too: all of their options were attacking midfielders in a previous life. Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Curtis Jones were effectively no.10s at one stage in their respective careers.

Even if they may play very well a little deeper, it's a group of players who are at their best when attacking the opposition box. That doesn't lend itself to a midfield that controls games, as we saw under Arne Slot last season.

The problem is two-fold, really. Liverpool have a group who prefer to receive the ball on the turn between the lines, rather than dictating tempo face-up.

They're also not very good at tackling. Liverpool struggle badly to win the ball back as they lack the right players to do it. That's a mix of poor pressing but also simply a void in the middle of the pitch - teams frequently run straight through them.

There is a player who can fix that, though. Eduardo Camavinga is available to buy from Real Madrid if a club can convince him.

Los Blancos, by all accounts, want to sell him. Camavinga himself is the one holding things up as he isn't sure he should leave - Liverpool, though, have a great chance of convincing him as they're desperately in need of a player just like him.

Camavinga is more than comfortable on the ball, while offering an ability to both win it back and cover the left flank from a midfield position. That happens to be exactly what Liverpool need - a defensive presence who can provide Milos Kerkez with a licence to get forward.

We'd love to see the Reds make this move, especially at the £42m price quoted in some reports (such as the Manchester Evening News). There won't be many better deals done than that this summer, at Liverpool or otherwise.

And Camavinga could well be the missing piece of the puzzle to move this squad up a level. We're certain he is.
