First signing? Andoni Iraola pushes for Liverpool to sign £80m star
Andoni Iraola has reportedly sent Liverpool's plans for a £80m star into overdrive.
Andoni Iraola is in as Liverpool head coach and now the transfer plans will change accordingly. Or at least, they'll shift slightly.
The general plan at Liverpool is to avoid completely altering the plan when the head coach changes. We'll see how easily they can stick to that, especially after the disaster that was last season.
At the very least, though, Iraola's arrival will push Liverpool's attention in certain directions. One fine example of that has come forward, with TeamTalk claiming that the Reds' desire to sign Alex Scott from Bournemouth has grown dramatically.
The midfielder excelled under Iraola last season and is now valued at around £80m. It's an incredible amount of money but apparently there's a desire at Liverpool to sign him.
It certainly makes some sense to give Iraola at least one signing specifically designed to help bridge the change in style. Scott would do that very nicely, and we imagine that'll come into the club's thinking with that transfer fee.
So this is certainly one to watch. Scott could ultimately be the first major signing - if Iraola pushes hard enough.
Alex Scott: Situation Summary
Bournemouth Campaign and Performance
As of 9 June 2026, Alex Scott remains an AFC Bournemouth player and has enjoyed a standout 2025/26 season. The 22-year-old English midfielder was instrumental in the Cherries' historic campaign, helping the club secure European football for the first time in their 127-year history. His performances throughout the season were so impressive that he was named the club's Supporters' Player of the Season. Following his form, Scott was invited to join England's pre-World Cup preparation camp by manager Thomas Tuchel and is currently in contention to potentially make his senior international debut in a friendly against Costa Rica on 10 June.
Transfer Interest and Future
Scott’s development has attracted significant attention from several top-tier clubs, including Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Liverpool. His future is currently a key focus of the transfer window, particularly due to the appointment of his former Bournemouth manager, Andoni Iraola, at Anfield. Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes, who originally signed Scott for Bournemouth in 2023, is also a long-term admirer. While Bournemouth are working to secure him to a new contract—potentially including a release clause in the region of £75 million to protect his value—he remains a primary target for clubs seeking a high-potential midfield addition this summer.
