Liverpool are pressing ahead to sign an exciting English sensation who could replace Florian Wirtz.

The German has been under pressure at Anfield recently. Wirtz arrived with so much excitement. He was going to the next superstar at Anfield.

And then what happened?

Well, he's been struggling to fit into the system, or the rhythm of English football. He's not quite what everyone expected him to be.

Wirtz has become a problem for Andoni Iraola. Because of how much hype Wirtz has and because of how much Liverpool invested in him, the Reds simply have to persist with their exciting talisman.

However, for much longer can they afford to be patient? Especially with Bayern Munich a willing customer.

Liverpool's homegrown disaster under Richard Hughes

Another issue that is becoming apparent is the lack of homegrown players in Liverpool's squad.

Over the last two years, Richard Hughes has been deliberately selling homegrown players. From Tyler Morton to Jarell Quansah and Curtis Jones.

Not to mention Trent Alexander-Arnold and Caoimhin Kelleher.

All of the above mentioned players could have a regular role to play in this squad and all of them have been trained from academy level to reach the first-team.

Their sales have left Liverpool in a situation which has led to players like Isaac Mabaya, who is 22-years-old and has just one appearance for the first-team having to be registered in the Premier League squad, just to make up the numbers.

That needs to change. Liverpool need to maximise their homegrown options.

Liverpool's exciting plans for Erik Farkas

Behind the scenes Liverpool do have a plan for a Wirtz successor. Julian Ward managed to convince Erik Farkas to sign his first professional contract with the Reds last month.

This was despite the England U18 international attracting a plethora of interest from a host of top Premier League and European clubs.

Farkas is regarded as one of the most exciting young players in the club's academy set-up. At 17-years-old, he has started the season in great form, with three goals and two assists in four games.

He is very much the perfect no.10 capable of operating between the lines and finding his teammate with perfect passes. Unlike Wirtz, Farkas has developed in English football. He's used to the physicality of the league and that makes him a lot more suited to playing in the Premier League.

Having already debuted for the U19s, and the U21s in a friendly, Farkas is closing in on the first-team and he's coming to replace the Reds' underperforming German very soon.
