Liverpool's Champions League trophy dreams ended at Anfield on Tuesday night but the result and the performance might go down as a silver lining for the Reds.

Over the two legs there is no way to sugarcoat things, Paris Saint Germain were the better team in the round of 16 tie. If it wasn't for Alisson's heroics, the game might have been over after the first leg.

Warren Zaire-Emery proves he is Liverpool's next signing

Both Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards were in attendance at Anfield on Tuesday night to watch Liverpool crash out of the Champions League according to the Daily Mail's Lewis Steele.

They will have seen some obvious holes that need to be fixed in the Liverpool squad, most notably in attack where both Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez failed to make their moments count on the pitch.

But they will have observed an exciting phenomenon at extra time and that player was not wearing the red jersey of Liverpool but the incredible blue strip of PSG.

Anfield Watch exclusively revealed that Liverpool are monitoring the situation of Warren Zaire-Emery, who is regarded as the perfect profile for Arne Slot's squad.

According to our understanding if Liverpool were given an indication that a deal was possible they would be willing to spend whatever it takes to get him.

And Liverpool's appetite will have only increased after the teenager's impressive cameo on Tuesday night.

Zaire-Emery came on for extra-time and in the half an hour he played he created two chances, won five out of his six duels, two out of his two attempted tackles, made four recoveries and completed 88% of his passes.

It was an all round performance and it showed exactly the type of midfielder Liverpool lack. Zaire-Emery gave PSG new revitalised energy during the final moments of the game.

At such a young age he's an incredible talent but the fact that he was only good enough to come on for the extra time and didn't get on the pitch during the full 90 minutes will be a positive indication for Hughes and Edwards.

They will have been observing things closely in attendance and with PSG's directors also at the game there will have been an opportunity to talk things over potentially.
