An England international has just showed he's ready to join Liverpool.

Liverpool's transfer window has so far fallen short of the excitement and momentum many supporters were expecting.

There is still plenty of time for the situation to change, but compared to this point last summer, the difference has been noticeable. Twelve months ago, the club had already made major moves in the market, securing the arrivals of Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez while also progressing towards deals for Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak.

There was a clear sense of direction. Liverpool appeared proactive, decisive and determined to reshape the squad with both the present and future in mind.

Naturally, expectations were high that this summer would follow a similar pattern.

Instead, the club's pursuit of Yan Diomande now looks to have hit a stumbling block. The highly-rated Ivorian is reportedly leaning towards a move to Paris Saint-Germain, leaving Liverpool needing to reassess their options in the search for one of Europe's most exciting young attackers.

While missing out on Diomande would be disappointing, it is also a reminder of where Liverpool currently find themselves. The club is entering a period of transition, and the challenge is finding players who can contribute immediately while also becoming key figures for the next generation.

Diomande was never expected to replace Mohamed Salah overnight, but he represented exactly the kind of signing Liverpool have traditionally targeted: young, talented and with the potential to develop into a world-class player.

The difficulty is that players with his profile are incredibly difficult to find.

A right winger capable of eventually following Salah's footsteps requires a rare combination of qualities—goalscoring ability, creativity, one-on-one threat and the mentality to perform at the highest level. There are very few players in world football who fit that description.

Diomande appeared to be one of those opportunities.

If Liverpool are unable to secure his signature, Richard Hughes and the recruitment team will need to identify another long-term solution.

That's now further complicated by the departure of Michael Edwards, who has left his role at FSG which involved overseeing Liverpool.

It leaves the Reds in a real mess.

Replacing Salah was always going to be one of the club's biggest challenges, and the importance of getting that decision right cannot be underestimated.

The search continues, but Liverpool know their next move could shape the future of the attack for years to come.

Of course, if the Reds only had to get the Salah replacement right, it would be easy. But the truth is there are other important decisions Liverpool are also going to have to make.

Over the last few years, the Reds have lost several key centre-backs. Joel Matip was never really replaced in the squad, and neither was Jarell Quansah last summer.

This time around Ibrahima Konate has also left the club. Sure, Jeremy Jacquet has come in but even his arrival leaves Liverpool awfully short on depth.

Apart from Virgil van Dijk, the only other senior options on top of Jacquet are an injury prone Joe Gomez and a Giovanni Leoni coming back from a long-term injury.

Liverpool need more options than that. Someone with experience, who can also cover the right-back role would be ideal.

There's one player who is perfect for this role and he confirmed that on Saturday evening playing for England at the World Cup.

Ezri Konsa has been truly sensational at the tournament so far and he stepped up on Saturday playing at right-back rather than centre-back against Norway and put in a great performance.

During the 89 minutes he spent on the pitch, Konsa, won 100% of his duels (5/5) and hardly put a foot wrong. That will have confirmed that he's ready to make the step-up to a bigger club like Liverpool and play the role of a versatile centre-back.

At 28-years-old, his experience would also be vital, especially because Van Dijk might leave the club next year when his contract expires.

It's the perfect move, and Konsa showed in the World Cup quarter-finals exactly why.
