An England forward has confirmed he wants to be Liverpool's no.9.

Liverpool need more attackers this summer. The Reds have already got the ball rolling by signing Victor Munoz, but there's little doubt he won't be the club's only arrival this summer.

In fact, this is shaping up to be one of the biggest transfer windows of Richard Hughes' career.

After coming under heavy scrutiny following last year's recruitment, the sporting director now has the opportunity to change the conversation. But with that comes a huge amount of responsibility.

The arrival of Andoni Iraola means Liverpool are entering a new phase. A different style of football requires different player profiles, and Hughes' job is to make sure the squad is equipped to deliver what the new head coach wants.

The challenge is made even greater by the departures of several senior players. Mohamed Salah, Ibrahima Konaté and Andy Robertson have all left on free transfers, leaving enormous gaps to fill. Replacing players of that quality is difficult enough, but Hughes must also improve the overall depth of the squad.

How Liverpool navigates this transfer window could define the club's trajectory for years to come. It's not simply about replacing those who have left - it's about building a squad capable of competing at the highest level for the long term and giving Iraola the foundations he needs to succeed.

Pre-season will be one of the most important periods of Andoni Iraola's first few months as Liverpool head coach.

Beyond building fitness and preparing for the new campaign, it will give him his first real opportunity to assess the squad up close and begin implementing the ideas that have made his teams so effective. Just as importantly, it will allow him to take a closer look at some of Liverpool's brightest young talents.

Every new manager starts with a clean slate to some extent, and that gives academy players and fringe members of the squad a genuine chance to impress. Training sessions and pre-season friendlies will provide the perfect stage for youngsters to show they can cope with Iraola's demanding style, which places such a heavy emphasis on intensity, pressing and work rate.

For the players, it's an opportunity they cannot afford to waste. A strong pre-season could be the difference between spending another year on the fringes or earning a place in Liverpool's first-team plans.

For Iraola, it's equally valuable. Rather than relying solely on the transfer market, he may discover that some of the solutions he needs are already at Kirkby. With several young prospects pushing for opportunities, pre-season could play a major role in shaping Liverpool's squad for the season ahead.

Among those hoping to impress will be a powerful English forward who has confirmed he recently that he hopes to be Liverpool's future no.9.

It went somewhat under the radar during the summer, but Liverpool may have pulled off one of the smartest academy signings of the window when they beat Arsenal to the signing of Will Wright last summer.

The teenager had already built a serious reputation at Salford City, scoring more than 40 goals at academy level before making his senior debut for the club at just 16 years old. In fact, only two 16-year-olds featured in the third round of the FA Cup last season - Wright and Rio Ngumoha.

Wright continued his rapid development at Liverpool and became a regular for Liverpool's U21 side last season. The striker averaged a goal contribution every 75 minutes in the Premier League 2. He has also registered eight goal contributions in his last eight appearances before the season ended.

Speaking to Liverpool's website the youngster confirmed his plans.

"Obviously [I] hope to go on tour maybe, get some minutes and show the fans what I'm about. Then long-term plans, hopefully just play for Liverpool and become the No.9," Wright said.
