Door now wide open for Liverpool to add another £100m sensation

Liverpool have spent an awful lot of money on new players over the last couple of years.

The Anfield outfit have attempted to improve their team and move on from the Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah golden era.

The arrivals of Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz last season were expected to completely transform Liverpool's performances but, in reality, it felt like it made them worse.

Indeed, the number of injuries that Isak suffered didn't help matters much and now he's fit again, he's probably going to play a major role for the Reds this season.

However, with there still being a fair few gaps in Liverpool's first-team squad, it still feels like some moves need to be made.

So, the fact that the rumour mill is still turning should be music to the ears of fans.

Michael Olise is still an 'interesting option' for Liverpool

Before links with Yan Diomande or Bradley Barcola first emerged, Michael Olise was Liverpool's main target to replace Salah.

The Frenchman has only just recently joined Bayern Munich from Crystal Palace and, while he was a star at Selhurst Park, he's improved to a completely different level.

Last season alone, the right-winger contributed to 53 goals across all competitions with all but one of his appearances coming as a right-winger.

However, due to his importance to Bayern, the Bundesliga outfit were not willing to sell but, now that the summer window has passed by, links with Olise and Liverpool are beginning to emerge again.

So, the fact that he's now being called an "interesting option" for Liverpool by German outlet, Focus, makes a lot of sense.

"The situation at Liverpool is particularly interesting. The Reds made a high-profile signing this summer with Bradley Barcola. However, the Frenchman primarily plays on the left wing," they wrote.

"Liverpool already have other options there in Cody Gakpo and Rio Ngumoha at their disposal.

"However, there could still be a need for reinforcements on the right side. That's precisely why Olise is likely to remain an interesting option for Liverpool in the long term.

"The Barcola transfer also has implications for Bayern Munich. The former PSG player was previously considered a potential successor to Olise. This option is no longer available, at least for the time being, following his move to Liverpool."

When Jurgen Klopp was Liverpool's manager, he barely got given any money to spend.

The German often had to scrape by and make the most of Liverpool's academy.

Indeed, sometimes this ended up working out with players such as Trent Alexander-Arnold and even Curtis Jones but, for others, such as Stefan Bajcetic, it made things a lot worse.

But, since Klopp's exit, things have changed completely and now, the Reds seem to be spending hundreds of millions every summer without even thinking about it.

So, if the deal for Olise did go through next summer, Liverpool would have four players worth over £100 million in their starting XI.

This, a few years ago, would've been seen as mental but now, it could genuinely become a reality.

Here's hoping Iraola can work his magic and convince Fenway Sports Group to shell out another record-breaking fee to bring the Frenchman in.
