Contract details confirmed: Liverpool agree deal to sign playmaker
Contract details have been confirmed as Liverpool strike a deal to sign a playmaker.
Liverpool are about to confirm the arrival of Samuel Martinez from Atletico Nacional. The Colombian playmaker was first linked with a move to the Reds back in May.
That link came from Pipe Sierra, who has now reported that Martinez is on his way to Liverpool quite literally - he's going to have a medical ahead of signing a pre-contract agreement. Nicely, Sierra has also provided photographic evidence of that.
Martinez is an incredibly exciting prospect who could go on to be a superstar. That's the level of talent Liverpool believe they're buying here and if you'd like to know more, we're given you everything you need to know about the 17-year-old.
But this is actually a relatively complicated one. Liverpool can't officially sign a 17-year-old from outside the UK, so they'll need to wait until Martinez turn 18 next April to actually get the player.
Though, this agreement does lock things in - no need to worry there.
Journalist Florian Plettenberg has offered up a contract detail with this one, too. He says Martinez will sign a 5-year contract with Liverpool, meaning he's committed to the Reds until 2032.
The club will pay Atletico Nacional around $1m plus a sell-on clause, which very possibly becomes far more valuable to them down the line. The size of that clause isn't clear, however.
All things are positive here, then. It would be Liverpool's second transfer of the summer, even if Martinez can't actually play for the club until the 2027/2028 campaign.
Made to wait - but we'll be sure to keep you fully updated on Martinez across the upcoming campaign.
