Confirmed: World-class star jetting in to sign for Liverpool

Liverpool are about to get their man. A truly world-class star is jetting in to sign for the Reds.

Liverpool went into this summer transfer window needing to sign an elite forward. Not only was their attack subpar last season but Mohamed Salah left the club - bringing in some sort of replacement was always a must.

Now, with just a few days remaining in the window, they appear to have finally got their man. News broke on Thursday morning that a deal was agreed in principle with Paris Saint-Germain for Bradley Barcola.

Barcola has long been a target, even if he wasn't the priority heading into the summer. Anfield Watch reported back in April that the Reds viewed him as a market opportunity - and they were correct. Sort of.

The winger will cost Liverpool far, far more than they thought he would. PSG held strong at wanting record-breaking numbers and they've got that, with Barcola becoming the biggest Ligue 1 sale to a foreign club.

In fact, the only Ligue 1 sale bigger than this one was Kylian Mbappe from AS Monaco to PSG themselves. Exactly how much of an 'opportunity' that is can be debated.

But the overall story here is that Barcola will join Liverpool. L'Equipe report that a deal is agreed and that the player will fly into Liverpool on Saturday to finalise everything.

So no, Barcola won't be appearing for the Reds against Nottingham Forest. This will be the final fixture without him, however, and he'll take up a place starting next week.

Ultimately, this is a massive signing for the club and they've bagged themselves the closest thing to Mohamed Salah as they could possibly find. That's worth the financial risk, as anyone would agree.
