Manchester City aren't ruling out a bombshell deal with Liverpool. No one saw this coming back in June.

Liverpool are doing deals, finally. It’s incredibly late in the transfer window, admittedly, but they’re finally snapping things together and making it all happen.

Bradley Barcola is the headline in that regard, though we doubt he’s the last coming through the door before Monday. Not to mention the potential exits: Liverpool have a few to work through.

And one of those, the biggest of them all, became a lot more likely on the back of the Barcola deal. Cody Gakpo looks like a near-certainty to leave Liverpool, with his role about to be taken by the Frenchman.

Gakpo has been heavily linked with Tottenham Hotspur and Anfield Watch understands that a £70m price-tag was slapped on the player as a result of their interest. But they’re not the only Premier League side with an interest.

Manchester City also want Gakpo and Gianluca Di Marzio is adamant that they haven’t given up on a deal. City are currently working through their attacking options after letting both Savio and Omar Marmoush join Tottenham this week.

Gakpo, then, would have a place there - but this would be a proper bombshell sale. Liverpool moved to replace the player this summer, despite only giving him a new contract a year ago.

Letting him join title-contenders? Absolutely no one would have guessed that back in June, with the Dutchman enduring a difficult campaign. Instead, he might be the biggest sale that Liverpool have ever made to a Premier League club.

This is a massively interesting one, then. Gakpo doesn’t appear to have a Liverpool future and there’s now a very good chance he becomes a fierce rival.
