Attacker jets in for medical as Liverpool agree surprise transfer

An exciting attacker has jetted in for a medical with Liverpool having agreed a transfer.

Liverpool’s transfer window has been remarkable, but not for the reasons the club would have hoped.

There have been reports suggesting Richard Hughes has been balancing his responsibilities at Liverpool with preparations for his expected move to Al Hilal. Whether those claims are entirely accurate is open to debate, but the broader assessment of his work this summer is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.

This was supposed to be a corrective transfer window. Liverpool entered the summer knowing that several issues left unresolved last year needed to be addressed. The squad required greater balance, key areas lacked depth, and, above all, the club needed to establish a long-term plan for life after Mohamed Salah.

Yet with fewer than 48 hours remaining before the deadline, many of those problems remain.

Liverpool are still searching for a player capable of filling the enormous void left by Salah, while midfield reinforcement - another area that appeared to require attention - does not seem to be a priority in the closing stages of the window.

That leaves the club facing a defining final few hours. Recruitment decisions made now will not simply shape the remainder of this season; they could influence Liverpool’s trajectory for years to come.

The window is approaching its conclusion, but arguably its most important moments may still be ahead.

Liverpool's transfer plans hit a block

All Liverpool have done is complete the signing of Bradley Barcola. It's a sensational signing but it doesn't really fix Liverpool's deeper issues.

Hughes was on the brink of allowing Cody Gakpo to leave. However, that move has now fallen through. The Reds could not source a replacement.

They held talks for Ismaila Sarr and Yankuba Minteh, but neither were available for the prices Liverpool wanted them for, so they decided the best option was to keep the Dutchman.

It means that Liverpool now have four wingers who also prefer to play on the left-wing. Barcola, Gakpo and on top of that Rio Ngumoha and Victor Munoz.

That means, players are going to have to play out of position.

This could be fine, Gakpo did well on the right-wing recently and Iraola could find a way to strike balance into the team.

But the signs aren't optimistic based on the first two games of the season, where Liverpool struggled and had to come back from being goals down against opponents they should have been beating.

Liverpool's exciting next transfer

But even if the Gakpo deal isn't happening and Liverpool aren't signing Minteh or Sarr, a deadline day move cannot be ruled out.

Liverpool have been excellent this summer and over the course of the last year at recruiting talented young players across the continent.

The latest player who fits into this category is Djylian N'Guessan. The 18-year-old French forward scored 23 goals in 25 games for France's youth national teams at U17 and U16 level and he has broken records at Saint Etienne during his time at the club.

Now L'Equipe reports that Liverpool have agreed a move to sign N'Guessan and the French forward has already jetted into the UK to undergo his medical.

The next step will be for him to go out on loan. The expectation is that this will be somewhere in France according to the report.

It's probably not the signing Liverpool fans expected after Barcola, it has come out of the blue and as a complete surprise but it's an exciting one nonetheless.

It signals a bright future ahead for Liverpool.
