African super talent closing in on massive Liverpool transfer

An African super talent is closing in on a move to Liverpool after the latest update.

Everyone's focusing on Liverpool's defence at the moment but there are so many question marks over the rest of the field for the Reds heading into the final few weeks of the transfer window.

There are still major question marks hanging over Liverpool's midfield, and Richard Hughes has another complicated situation to resolve before the transfer window closes.

Both Alexis Mac Allister and Curtis Jones have uncertain futures, although Jones appears to be the player most likely to move on. Inter Milan have shown interest, but whether the Italian club are prepared to meet Liverpool's valuation remains to be seen.

Regardless of what happens this summer, there is a growing sense that Jones' long-term future at Anfield is unclear. The midfielder has less than a year remaining on his current contract and there has been little indication that an extension is close.

The reality is that Jones wants to be more than just a squad player. He wants to be a regular starter and a key figure in the team, but after years of trying to establish himself as a first-choice midfielder at Liverpool, he has struggled to secure that role consistently.

Mac Allister's situation is slightly different, but it is becoming increasingly intriguing. He is the only member of Liverpool's 2023 midfield rebuild who was handed a contract running until 2028 but has not yet committed his future beyond his current deal.

Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai have both since secured long-term futures, leaving Mac Allister as the outlier.

Given his inconsistent performances last season, it is not impossible that Liverpool would consider offers if the right opportunity arrives. A significant bid from a club such as Real Madrid would certainly test the situation.

However, any departure would immediately create another problem for Hughes to solve. Losing an established midfielder would require a replacement, and that replacement would need to fit the demands of Andoni Iraola's high-intensity system.

That is what makes this period so challenging for Liverpool's sporting director. Every decision has a knock-on effect. Strengthening one area could create another weakness, while allowing players to leave without replacements would leave the squad dangerously short.

And all of this is before even addressing the biggest challenge of all - rebuilding the attack.

The attack was already dysfunctional under Arne Slot but now with Mo Salah having departed, Hugo Ekitike out injured and potentially Cody Gakpo heading out of the door, there's even more work to be done.

It's probably the area that Hughes is prioritising the most. He has made significant advancements trying to lure Ibrahim Mbaye to Anfield, and he is also moving to sign his PSG teammate Bradley Barcola.

Thankfully, there's good news on both fronts. Barcola is getting closer and closer to a move to Anfield and so is Mbaye.

The African super talent, who became the youngest player representing the continent to score at the World Cup, is believed to prefer a move to Liverpool.

Previously, he was also in talks with Bayer Leverkusen. However, Space ITK, a pretty reliable source of information over the course of the last 12 months, has now reported that the German side have pulled out of the negotiations for Mbaye.

The update claims Mbaye is prioritising a move to Anfield.

And that is a huge breakthrough for Liverpool. With the only rival in the race pulling out and Mbaye making it clear he wants the move to the Reds, Liverpool are now closing in on signing this exciting attacker.
