Finally! Liverpool lining up move to replace Roberto Firmino at last
Liverpool may finally be moving to replace Roberto Firmino with an exciting transfer.
Michael Edwards did not need to say much in 2022 when asked about his favourite Liverpool signing. One small detail gave the game away: he had named his dog “Bobby”.
There could only be one answer - Roberto Firmino.
The smiling Brazilian, with his dazzling skill, infectious personality and relentless energy, became one of Liverpool’s most beloved players during the club’s dominant era under Jurgen Klopp.
What made Firmino so special was the way he combined flair with extraordinary selflessness. He had all the tools to be a star in his own right, capable of producing moments of magic with clever flicks, inventive passes and crucial goals. Yet his greatest value often came from what he did for everyone around him.
Firmino was never obsessed with his own numbers. Instead, he was willing to sacrifice himself for the team, dropping deep, pressing defenders and dragging opponents out of position to create space for Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
That willingness to put the collective ahead of the individual was a huge reason why Liverpool’s attack became one of the most feared in Europe.
Firmino was the perfect representation of Klopp’s Liverpool: talented, selfless, relentless and always willing to do whatever the team needed.
Today, Roberto Firmino is rightly regarded as a modern Liverpool legend. But when he arrived at Anfield, there was no guarantee he would reach those heights.
The Brazilian had impressed at Hoffenheim, where Liverpool’s recruitment team identified a player whose underlying numbers and performances suggested there was still plenty of untapped potential. Extensive scouting backed up the data, convincing the club that Firmino had the qualities to thrive in the Premier League.
They could hardly have got it more right.
Firmino became a cornerstone of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, playing a crucial role in the club’s biggest successes and earning the admiration of teammates and supporters. Few signings of the modern era have left such a lasting impact.
And since his departure, Liverpool have never truly replaced him.
Hugo Ekitike arguably came closest to recreating some of Firmino’s flair and connection with supporters, but the Frenchman still has a long way to go before he can be mentioned in the same breath as the Brazilian.
Ekitike’s injury has now created another problem for Richard Hughes. Liverpool are exploring the possibility of adding another forward, with the need becoming even greater depending on who leaves before the window closes.
It promises to be another hectic period for Hughes.
Liverpool already need another winger, potentially two and maybe even three.
Essentially, they need someone who can offer a little bit of what Firmino once did.
Finding another one, however, will be easier said than done. In fact Liverpool are already making moves to do so.
The Daily Mail are reporting that after having a bid rejected for Yankuba Minthe, Liverpool are preparing a second offer.
And in the process, they could finally find their Firmino heir.
Minteh is a pressing monster. He is selfless just like Firmino and puts in so much graft. He may not be a goal-scorer, he may not be that much of a threat in the box but neither was Firmino.
Like the Brazilian, Minteh facilitates. He creates chances for his teammates and he works hard off the ball to make the system work.
So, this is why Liverpool could finally replace their favourite former no.9.
