An exciting South American star is heading to Liverpool, he's the perfect midfielder.

Fabinho, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez all became big fan favourites during their time at Anfield and are still remembered fondly by supporters.

They have also played a part in making Liverpool a much bigger club in South America. Alongside the work Jurgen Klopp did, the Reds have changed the way the club is viewed over there.

Liverpool are no longer seen as somewhere players go before eventually ending up at Barcelona or Real Madrid. They have become a destination in their own right, which is a pretty big shift.

Liverpool's exciting plans to rebuild the midfield

Even though the Reds' attraction has grown over the last few years, it does look like they are on the verge of losing another South American.

While Liverpool extended the contracts of Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch, they are yet to do the same with Alexis Mac Allister.

Contract negotiations have stalled with the Argentine World Cup winner and it now looks like he will be potentially leaving the club in the next few transfer window before his contract expires in the summer of 2028.

His potential replacement has already been identified as Lamine Camara, who Liverpool admire hugely and who could be the perfect replacement for Mac Allister.

But the Reds have also signed an incredible South American midfielder, who is going to be heading to Liverpool.

So, the Reds have tried to become more active in the South American market in recent years. Liverpool tried to sign a number of Ecuadorian players in the past.

Deinner Ordonez most notably was on Liverpool's radar before Chelsea snatched him up.

In the end, the first signing from South America for Liverpool has been Samuel Martinez. The young midfielder caught the eye in the U17 Copa America, helping Colombia win the tournament.

Now he's recently been named among the Guardian's Top 60 talents born in 2009, proving once and for all that Liverpool have signed an incredible player.

"There are similarities to Kaká; the way he explodes forward, his game intelligence and discipline, the perfect weight he puts on a pass,” head of scouting Juan Camilo Pérez at Atletico Nacional told The Guardian.

“He was the best player at the Under-17s.”

It's exciting times ahead.
