Alexander Isak will be expected to finally get his Liverpool career off the ground this season.

The Sweden international spent the vast majority of the 2026-27 campaign on the bench which is far from ideal for a club-record signing.

However, now that he's back fit and raring to go, Andoni Iraola will undoubtedly be looking towards the towering striker to lead his attack.

Isak has already managed to get his first Premier League goal of the season but, from the way that he's performed so far, he doesn't look like he's worth anywhere the £125 million that Liverpool spent on him.

But, with Hugo Ekitike out until at least January, Isak is going to have to step up his game or Liverpool will be forced to get creative.

Jayden Danns is set to stay at Liverpool

Liverpool's academy is easily one of the best in the Premier League.

Legends such as Jamie Carragher, Steven Gerrard and Trent Alexander-Arnold have all made their way through the Anfield ranks and have gone on to be written in Liverpool's history books.

Indeed, some, such as Alexander-Arnold and Curtis Jones may have packed their bags and left but that doesn't mean that they're not talented.

At the moment, it feels like Liverpool have a lot of solid youngsters who are on the verge of breaking into Liverpool's first-team squad.

Lewis Koumas, Trey Nyoni and James McConnell have all been linked with having a regular role for Iraola this term.

But now, a player who fans thought would be exiting Anfield could be about to become Isak's backup.

"An update on Jayden Danns: he is going to remain at Liverpool with the aim of showing he can contribute for Andoni Iraola," Dominic King shared via X.

"It’s a significant, too, as if the 134-year sequence of a local player representing the club is to continue, Danns will be the one to do it."

Jayden Danns has half a season to prove his worth to Andoni Iraola

Liverpool's attack is one of their main areas to have had a question mark hanging over it this summer.

The transfer of Bradley Barcola was finally announced after what felt like months of negotiations and, Victor Munoz was also handed his first Premier League start for the club.

However, since some of the Reds' players are still carrying injuries from last term, some aren't available to play for Liverpool right from the start.

One of those being, Ekitike. As mentioned, the former Frankfurt man suffered a season-ending injury towards the end of last term and isn't scheduled to return until January at the earliest.

This means that, among their senior players, only Isak is a natural striker.

But, since Liverpool were undecided about what to do with Danns, they now seem to be giving him a chance to prove his worth.

Danns has had a tough time with injuries over the last couple of years but, now that he's fit and ready to play, this could be the best chance he'll ever get to prove why he deserves to be a Liverpool player.

Here's hoping he doesn't bottle it as, a homegrown striker could be exactly what the Reds need right now.
