Star confirms it: He remains on course to leave Liverpool
One Liverpool star has completely confirmed it. He remains on course to leave the Reds and his situation is yet to change.
2026 was a year of goodbyes at Liverpool as they saw some key players depart the club. Three of them were planned, though not all of them.
Mohamed Salah was the biggest departure. He left along with Andy Robertson at the end of the season, with Liverpool allowing both to leave on free transfers. Ibrahima Konate then did the same - even if the Reds did try to keep him around.
Curtis Jones then called time on his Liverpool career. He agreed to join Inter in the summer as he'd entered the final year of his contract. The club were willing to sell before losing him for nothing next year.
And similar situations will pop up again. Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker are the headliners this time around and both are set to leave with the end of their respective contracts in 2027.
But they're not the only difficult situations.
Alexis Mac Allister's contract situation
Liverpool controversially decided not to renew Alexis Mac Allister's contract this year, despite handing major deals to both Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai. The trio have made up their midfield since 2023, arriving at the same time.
But the Reds made their choice here. They opted against Mac Allister, who has a deal until 2028, and that's something that upset the player. We know that because the Argentine went public with his disappointment - he wants to renew and it's Liverpool who aren't playing ball.
Things have changed, though. In as much as Mac Allister has started the season brilliantly and is clearly Liverpool's best midfielder right now. He's become absolutely vital to Andoni Iraola and it's thought that some pressure there could change the situation and secure him a new contract.
However, it hasn't had an effect thus far.
Mac Allister gave an interview to Sky Sports this week where he made it clear that the situation hasn't changed. He remains on course to leave in 2028, though expectations are that Liverpool would look to sell early next year in order to receive some sort of fee with which to sign a replacement.
The season is still young, of course, but as things stand, this increasingly looks like the final season of Mac Allister at Liverpool.
