Richard Hughes now has last-ditch chance to fix major Liverpool problem area

Liverpool haven't got that long now until the summer transfer window slams shut.

At the moment, they've made three new signings and have gotten rid of many members of their first-team squad.

And, while Andoni Iraola may still be unbeaten at Liverpool, the performances from the Anfield outfit have been rather uninspiring.

The Spaniard has admitted that new players are still needed in L4 and, since there are so many players still being linked with the Reds, change is certainly afoot.

Bradley Barcola is in Liverpool at the moment doing his medical for his record-breaking move.

However, Hughes and Iraola may have just been handed the perfect opportunity to sign someone for one of their biggest problem areas.

Lamine Camara still hasn't agreed terms with Chelsea over a transfer

Liverpool's midfield is in tatters at the moment.

Even though they spent £116 million on Florian Wirtz and agreed new long-term deals with Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai, there are still a couple of gaping holes that need to be filled.

Szoboszlai has already proven that he isn't made to play in a double pivot and, while his partnership with Alexis Mac Allister worked a little better, the fact that all three of the Reds' senior central midfielders are rather attack-minded is a bit of a problem.

Fans have known that their midfield is a major problem area ever since the 2025-26 season ended.

And, while Hughes and Fenway Sports Group both know this as well, they've barely tried to solve the problem.

However, thanks to an update from French journalist Sebastien Denis, it feels like that could all be about to change.

"First half absolutely massive from Lamine Camara with Monaco against l'OM," he shared via X.

"We understand better now why Xabi Alonso wants him at Chelsea. But there, Sunday night at 9:47 p.m., there's no agreement yet and he's still an AS Monaco player after."

Lamine Camara is one of the main midfielders to have been linked with a Liverpool move this summer.

The Senegal international has been tearing it up for AS Monaco since the start of the 2025-26 season with current manager Filipe Luis having a bit of a soft spot for him.

However, thanks to the financial issues that the Ligue 1 outfit are facing, they need to make a couple of big sales before the September 1st deadline to make ends meet.

And, while some journalists are saying that Camara going to Chelsea is already a done deal, that is clearly not the case.

There isn't that much longer left of the 2026-27 summer transfer window so, any moves that Liverpool make will have to be completed in record time.

That's why, if the Reds do actually want to get a deal for Camara over the line, it'll have to be a last-ditch attempt and they'll have to try and beat Chelsea to the move.

This, after the Blues have just confirmed the addition of Honest Ahanor, is obviously going to be a tough ask.
