Richard Hughes can't miss deal for Ivorian World Cup sensation
Liverpool's attack is in dire need of a revamp.
Mohamed Salah has exited Anfield and Hugo Ekitike is out injured until who knows when.
Federico Chiesa and Cody Gakpo could also be on their way out so, in reality, the Reds could end up being left with Rio Ngumoha, Victor Munoz and Alexander Isak.
Of course, each of these players are excellent but, since Munoz has never played in the Premier League and Ngumoha is still only 17 years old, it's hardly fair for an entire fanbase to rely upon them to deliver the good for an entire season.
Liverpool clearly have money to spend as they've been linked with £80 million + transfers almost every day and, even though a move for Yan Diomande seems to have been squandered, there's still a chance for one of his fellow countrymen to make the switch to Anfield.
Bazoumana Toure would be a perfect signing for Liverpool
Ivory Coast were one of the many dark horse teams to take part in the 2026 World Cup.
The tournament has been a historic one for African countries as, of the 10 that qualified, nine of them made it into the round of 32.
For the Ivory Coast, their round of 32 game is coming against Norway which could end up being a rather difficult test for them.
But, since Diomande is still in the form of his life, they could be in with a chance, that is, especially if Bazoumana Toure also shows up.
The winger currently plays for Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga but, since they didn't do as well as the Ivorian thought they would this season, he's now seeking pastures new.
A deal worth around £35 million is all it would cost to bring him to Anfield and, since he's contributed to 17 goals across all competitions this season, he could be an ideal target for Liverpool.
His primary position is on the left wing but, much like Diomande, he can also play on the right if required to do so and, he's already been linked with Liverpool in the past.
Liverpool can't repeat the same mistake they made with Yan Diomande
Even before the 2025-26 season ended, Liverpool's fanbase have been told that Diomande was their number one target.
Most people thought that his transfer was nailed on with some fans even religiously watching Ivory Coast's games in the World Cup so that they could get a taste of what their team were getting.
However, since the RB Leipzig ace has now said that he'd prefer a move to Paris Saint-Germain instead, they've been left in a bit of a pickle.
Sure, Richard Hughes has back-up options to explore but, since it took Liverpool so long to make their first bid for Diomande and since it took them so long to finally figure out that he didn't actually want to join them, they clearly can't repeat the same mistake again.
So, whoever their next priority target is, whether it's Toure or someone such as Bradley Barcola, they can't just plod along as a leisurely pace.
Instead, they need to find out how much the selling club wants, whether the player wants to join or not and just get the deal done.
Otherwise, they could end up waiting until deadline day again until their squad is fully complete.
