PANICKING FSG hand out RECORD breaking deal for veteran star

Liverpool owners FSG appear to be in panic mode as they hand out a record contract to a veteran star. Mo Salah doesn't have a new deal, by the way.

Liverpool aren't handing out money easily this year. We saw just one first-team signing in the summer as Federico Chiesa arrived on the bargain deal, though the club did sign Giorgi Mamardashvili for the future.

The Georgian cost £35m and should arrive in the summer.

But more notably, Liverpool are currently set to lose Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold on free transfers. The trio are out of contract in June - and no new deals have been signed.

The former two have both pretty openly expressed a desire to stay, too. Mo Salah deliberately talked about not having an offer in front of reporters.

Liverpool, essentially, don't want to take any chances on ageing players. Pay a massive amount to someone over 30 and you risk paying a massive amount to someone in decline. Possibly even rapid decline.

And yet, there are zero such concerns from FSG with their other major team.

FSG dish out record contract

FSG are now paying Aroldis Chapman a record-setting contract after signing the 36-year-old free agent for the Boston Red Sox. That's right, 36.

There don't appear to be any concerns in paying veteran players an awful lot of money in baseball. This is the most money a player in Chapman's role has ever earned, too, per reporter Francys Romero.

And it comes after a period of panicking from FSG. They're trying to turn the Red Sox around, promising to spend incredible amounts in free agency.

It hasn't worked out that way, though. They failed to sign Juan Soto, the biggest free agent on the market. Their deal for Chapman isn't even well-received by fans.

All in all, it's been a disaster. They're in panic mode, all while an even more ridiculous situation rolls on at Anfield.

At one team, they refuse to spend. At the other, they're trying to spend big and failing to.

It's a mess - for both teams.
