Manchester City are making a massive mistake and it opens the door for a world-class talent to join Liverpool.

ESPN Deportes reported on Saturday morning that Manchester City led the race to sign Ayyoub Bouaddi. Now, that's a blow as we'd absolutely love to see the teenager at Liverpool.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Reds did make contact about a potential move before the World Cup. But that was before the hype got seriously out of hand.

But Romano has now let slip on his YouTube channel that City might be making a mistake here. They're aiming to sign Bouaddi in 2027, which opens the door for clubs like Liverpool.

In fact, it might open that door widest for Liverpool.

The Reds are in a strong position to sign Bouaddi as they don't actually have a player like him. They're light in midfield, lacking a ball-winner and someone who can shield a back four.

No rival for his signature, then, can guarantee him the kind of minutes that Liverpool can. That's a very, very important factor here as the Athletic reports that Bouaddi is keen to join a club where he can immediately play a key role.

That's what will swing this one. Liverpool are the biggest club who can give him that.

City, by waiting until 2027, couldn't be making it any clearer that there isn't actually a spot for him. Arsenal, another rival, have a plethora of midfielders on the back of their title-winning season.

It's Liverpool who are in a rebuild and Liverpool who would need Bouaddi right here and now. City's decision to wait catapults the Reds ahead of them in the race, as far as we can tell, and it's something that may ultimately see the teenager land at Anfield.
