Bournemouth's 12-game unbeaten run came to an end at the hand of Liverpool's 2-0 win and the Reds delivered an emphatic statement in the team's title race with Arsenal, extending their own unbeaten streak to 19 games in the league.

Kerkez struggled to really impact the game when faced with the task of dealing with Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo in attack, but at no point did he capitulate and his hard-fought efforts were clear for all to see, including the onlooking Liverpool executives in the stands.

Liverpool impressed by 'incredible' Kerkez

Since it was reported in November by an Anfield Watch exclusive that the Reds are in preliminary talks with Bournemouth's starlet left-back, fans have not been able to stop talking about how brilliant Kerkez has been this season. On Saturday all of his skills were on show.

Although Salah managed to score from his side, Kerkez's duels with the Egyptian were largely split evenly and in terms of his attacking process, the fullback would have had an assist to his name if he wasn't marginally offside.

His performance included five interceptions, one tackle, two successful long balls and four from seven successful ground duels. For a sub-optimal effort, that is not bad at all.

Richard Hughes, Liverpool's sporting director was in attendance watching on, taking advantage of the opportunity to revisit his former club and watch both his current and former players on the same pitch at the same time.

In addition to the countless brilliant performances he's delivered already this season, Kerkez will hardly have hindered his chances by struggling a little against Salah.

Likewise, he was able to speak to his fellow Hungary teammate Dominik Szoboszlai after the game, as pictured in the Liverpool No8's Instagram post celebrating the win.

And while Slot was as diplomatic as ever in his press conference, even he couldn't help but be complimentary to Bournemouth's efforts, which Kerkez has been a substantial part of.

Speaking to the media after the game, he said: "He’s playing over here, he’s having a great season as many, many, many other players here are as well. That shows you probably how good of a manager you have over here, what a great sporting director you had over here – and maybe still have, I don’t know how the one now is doing.

“[Richard Hughes] brought in very good players and this manager works with them in an incredible way, because he brings the best out of every single player – including the one you just mentioned, but I’m not talking about an individual. They are all bringing the best out of their game at the moment.”

So while Liverpool will have to keep their chips hidden for the time being until the summer transfer window opens to have a crack at bringing Kerkez to Merseyside, it is clear that he is a player that the club appreciates and he could quite easily fit into the team if a deal is struck.
