Liverpool want agreement for former Barcelona star

Liverpool are reportedly in the market for a former Barcelona star. That's according to local reports.

Diario de Sevilla reports that Liverpool are interested in winger Abde Ezzalzouli. There's actually nothing more offered than that - just that the Reds would like the player.

Ezzalzouli joined Real Betis from Barcelona in 2023 and has enjoyed something of a breakout campaign. The 24-year-old has scored seven and assisted seven from the left flank, becoming one of La Liga's standout wingers.

That's grabbed Liverpool's interest, who need to boost their production from out wide. They never actually replaced Luis Diaz beyond promoting Rio Ngumoha, but the teenager is still pretty unproven.

Mo Salah's impending exit then increases the need for something new out wide, even if Ezzalzouli does play on the opposite flank to the Egyptian. Liverpool, though, can be fully expected to make some sort of move this summer in attack.

And it may well be Ezzalzouli. His signing would have echoes of Salah, given he's roughly the same age that the Liverpool star was when he moved to Anfield and he too didn't quite make it at an 'elite' club.

Perhaps, like Salah, Ezzalzouli could make a jump in the right environment. That would be the hope if the Moroccan is ultimately the player Liverpool move for.

Abde Ezzalzouli: Situation Summary

Real Betis Performance and Stats

As of 27 April 2026, Abde Ezzalzouli is enjoying the most productive season of his career at Real Betis. The 24-year-old winger has recorded 12 goals and 12 assists across 38 appearances in all competitions, totalling 2,749 minutes. In La Liga, he has scored seven goals and provided seven assists in 24 matches, maintaining an 84% pass completion rate. He also played a key role in Betis's Europa League campaign, contributing four goals and two assists before their quarter-final exit to Braga on 16 April. His recent form includes a standout goal and two assists in a 3–2 victory over Girona on 21 April.

Transfer Speculation and Liverpool Interest

Abde’s explosive form has made him a primary target for Liverpool, who are searching for a successor to Mohamed Salah. Reports from 27 April suggest Arne Slot’s side is prepared to trigger his €60 million release clause to avoid a bidding war. While Betis previously rejected offers around €40 million, they have now made it clear they will only sanction a sale if the full clause is met.

International Standing

A vital part of the Morocco national team, Abde recently helped the Atlas Lions win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. He remains a guaranteed selection for the 2026 World Cup this June.
