Liverpool have their eggs in a lot of baskets ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Anfield outfit are looking to massively improve their ranks after a less then impressive 2025-26 season.

Indeed, the club looks likely to confirm their place in the Champions League but there's still that nagging feeling in the back of their fanbases heads which doesn't want to go away.

Despite them not knowing what competitions they'll be competing in, several players have already been linked with a switch and now, Arne Slot and Richard Hughes have been given an update about one of their potential targets.

Assan Ouedraogo has no release clause in his current RB Leipzig contract

Liverpool's midfield is one of the main areas among their ranks that could do with changing.

Even though they have many world-class players, hardly any of them have performed to the standards expected of them with Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch arguably being the worst of the lot.

Some, such as Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones have been in top form but with the latter of the two likely to leave Liverpool this summer, it's clear that change is needed.

And, even though Slot and Hughes were interested in bringing RB Leipzig's Assan Ouedraogo to Anfield, a fresh report from Bild seems to have squashed those rumours.

"And they [RB Leipzig] have absolutely no interest in letting Ouédraogo leave," the German outlet wrote.

"Certainly not for €40 million.

"The top talent is expected to take the next steps with the club next season – ideally in the Champions League. His contract, which runs until 2029, does not contain a release clause.

"Leipzig and Liverpool have a good relationship."

Liverpool must turn their attention elsewhere this summer

Even though a deal for Ouedraogo looks to be off the table, that doesn't mean Liverpool should stop looking for new midfielders.

The Anfield outfit are in desperate need for some fresh legs in midfield and, if they don't manage to sign anyone, they could be in a real spot of bother.

Their fans are already rather annoyed with how badly Liverpool have performed this season and, if they don't manage to rectify it next term, some serious questions will need to be asked.

Indeed, other areas of their team also need an upgrade or two but, in the grand scheme of things, it's clear that the Reds' midfielder is in need of a major shake-up before it's too late.
