Local reports: Liverpool ESCALATE €60m playmaker pursuit
Liverpool have stepped up their chase of one of Europe’s top playmakers. Here’s the latest.
Go back to the summer of 2024 and Liverpool spent the transfer window chasing a failure. They wanted to bring in Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad and did look like getting him - until they didn’t.

Everything moved forward as planned and then at the last moment, Zubimendi decided he couldn’t bring himself to leave his boyhood club. We wish more players were like that, to be honest.
Now, it does seem that Zubimendi will depart this summer but it won’t be to Liverpool. A move to Arsenal appears to be done and that will have been helped along by the Reds’ ultimate ‘replacement’ for the Spaniard.
Ryan Gravenberch stepped into that midfield ball-progressing role this season and did so in style. He’s been one of the absolute best in the Premier League and one of the key reasons why Liverpool have won the title.
But it appears the club do still want to sign a deep-lying playmaker this summer. After all, they won’t want to entirely rely on Gravenberch again - doing so have affected him over the second half of the campaign.
So with that in mind, reports out of Germany suggest Liverpool have their man in mind.

Liverpool escalate Angelo Stiller pursuit
Stuttgarter Nachrichten reports that Liverpool have strengthened their interest in Stuttgart star Angelo Stiller. It’s only a short article here but the outlet claims there’s ‘great interest’ from the Reds.
Local reports like this from reliable outlets are usually very worth listening to. We’d take this as almost fact, honestly.
And it makes sense. Stiller, much like Zubimendi, is a sitting playmaker who looks to move the ball forward. He’s exactly the kind of player Liverpool wanted last summer.
Now, Stiller has signed a new contract with Stuttgart since but the suggestion here is that it won’t prevent a move. The club would want around €60m in order to let the player move.
Should Liverpool have moved before the contract, then? They almost certainly could have bagged Stiller for less, though we imagine the Reds weren’t quite as sure on him.
Another top season, though, appears to have convinced Richard Hughes and co.
This is firmly one to watch, then. Liverpool are after a new element for their midfield and Stiller may be exactly that.
