Liverpool forward deal now hinges on PSG talks

Liverpool’s desire to sign one-v-one specialists for the wide attacking positions this summer has been well documented.

It was the stated aim of previous coaching incumbent Arne Slot and the message has been reiterated by Andoni Iraola.

The Reds have lost Mohamed Salah on a free transfer while deals could yet be concluded for Federico Chiesa and Cody Gakpo. And while Victor Munoz has been brought in for £34m there remains a desire to add more wingers.

Barcola is Liverpool's No1 target

Bradley Barcola is the primary target but Paris Saint-Germain are holding out for around £145m for the 23-year-old’s signature.

That fee is excessive - particularly for a player whose deal expires in 2028 - and that could leave Richard Hughes and Iraola considering other options.

One name reportedly in the frame has been Mika Godts.

The Belgium international has been in supreme form for Ajax over the last year - leading to speculation that he would be leaving this summer.

PSG move closer to Mika Godts deal

PSG according to reports are in the driving seat for a deal - with Ajax holding out for around £51m in talks.

The French champions are seeking to beef up their attack having lost Randal Kolo Muani, Goncalo Ramos and Lee Kang-In over the summer with an outbound deal expected to be concluded for Barcoal in due course.

Luis Enrique has also added Maghnes Akliouche - and Liverpool will be left hoping for a miracle in order to get a Godts deal over the line.

That’s according to a report in TEAMtalk which claims the 2024/25 Premier League champions are among the teams with their noses pressed against the glass as PSG and Ajax seek to tie up a deal for the winger.

“Paris Saint-Germain have stepped up their pursuit of Ajax star Mika Godts, with Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur all being informed of the Ligue 1 champions’ growing interest in the Belgian winger,” the report reads.

“PSG have now held positive discussions over a move for Godts after missing out on RB Leipzig sensation Yan Diomande.

“Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham have all been informed of the latest developments, having maintained varying degrees of contact with Godts’ representatives throughout the summer.

“Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham are all keeping a close watch on developments should the situation change before the transfer window closes.”

PSG may not be minded to overpay for Godts - a development which could bring Liverpool and others back to the table.

Alternatively any failure to land Godts could then have an impact on their willingness to consider a transfer for Barcola. Liverpool’s summer may well hinge on developments regarding PSG and Mika Godts.
