22-year-old Liverpool starlet moves closer to Rangers deal
Liverpool will soon have a decision to make over one of their homegrown stars.
It’s fair to say it’s been a mixed bag this season for the players the Reds sent out on loan. The likes of James McConnell and Lewis Koumas fared badly in the first half of the season while Harvey Elliott and Kostas Tsimikas have been struggling.
But there is one success story.
Luca Stephenson, 22, has again been impressive on loan at Dundee United. Having spent the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Tannadice the midfielder-cum-right-back signed a new deal at Anfield last summer before heading back north of the border.
The former Sunderland trainee has again enjoyed a brilliant stint - even captaining Jim Goodwin’s side for one league fixture.

Alas his season is now also at an end due to a hamstring injury and the off-season will bring uncertainty.
Arne Slot may opt to integrate Stephenson into the first-team picture - having ignored calls to bring him back early from his loan in January.
More likely however will be a sale with a space now opening up at Rangers to accommodate Stephenson. The Old Firm duo are both reported to be interested in a deal for Stephenson - with the possibility of a loan move also not ruled out.
And with the news that James Tavernier will be leaving Ibrox at the end of the current campaign we can expect Danny Rohl’s side to step up their recruitment at right-back.
James Tavernier leaving Rangers
Stephenson is known to be in the crosshairs - excelling against Rangers earlier this season - and it would be no surprise if they follow through on their interest in the young Englishman.
An ideal scenario perhaps would be the player moving on a loan deal before returning to Anfield and embarking on a successful first-team career.
Capable of playing right-back, wing-back or central midfield Stephenson will be an asset for whichever team manages to get him involved next season.
