Liverpool to agree £30m midfielder deal
It looks like Inter Milan are making another attempt to sign Curtis Jones.
Various reporters are claiming that the Italian champions are set to submit an offer to Richard Hughes in the near future.
The San Siro outfit have had the 25-year-old midfielder on the radar for quite some time now - with their interest stretching back to the January window.
Inter clearly see Jones as a market opportunity due to his contract expiring in 2027 but are beginning to test Liverpool’s patience.
Inter have been coming up short for Jones deal
The Nerazzurri have only raised their bid to around £21m so far - not nearly enough to get the outgoing Premier League champions interested in a deal.
In fact Liverpool are quite prepared to take a risk and let Jones’ terms expire rather than sell him on the cheap.
He may still have a role to play under new head coach Andoni Iraola and new contract talks could take place once the window closes if he’s still on Merseyside.
But the matter could be resolved imminently upon the news of Inter’s latest attempt to strike an agreement.
Liverpool could settle for £30m Jones deal
According to a report in TEAMtalk the Anfield club value their homegrown playmaker at £34m. They are however prepared to come down from that valuation so long as Inter meet them somewhere near the middle and a deal is possible around the £30m mark.
“The Italian champions are prepared to increase their offer to around £25million and could stretch beyond that if required, but there remains a reluctance to reach Liverpool’s £30million asking price,” the report reads.
Given Inter have placed Jones at the top of their midfield wishlist it would be a surprise if they miss out on Jones over a gap of only a few million.
Finish line in sight for Jones deal
Liverpool are already selling Jones for a reasonable fee and any further compromise on their part would be unwise. There are many possibilities still in play therefore.
Liverpool could get an acceptable offer from Inter and send Jones on his way - or else he could remain at the club through the window and sign a new deal.
The least optimum outcome however is one the decision-makers at Anfield need to keep in the back of their minds - failing to secure a fee on Jones this summer and letting his contract lapse before he leaves on a free.
Right now a lot depends on Inter and the possibility of them raising their bid just enough to satisfy Liverpool’s immediate demands.
