Big changes are coming to Liverpool’s midfield this off-season.

Arne Slot has been relying on the same cast of midfield characters for a couple of campaigns now. And at least two of them appear a long way past their Premier League title-winning best.

Alexis Mac Allister - under contract until 2028 - has been out of form for around a year now. And Ryan Gravenberch’s performances haven’t picked up despite signing a bumper new £277k per week deal.

Factor in a contract complication for Curtis Jones - as well as an uncertain future for Wataru Endu - and you can see why changes are planned.

Liverpool among teams chasing Hugo Larsson

It now looks like Hugo Larsson, 21, is going to be a target for the midfield rebuild come summer.

The Eintracht Frankfurt dynamo has grown in stature since signing from Malmo back in 2023. The Sweden international is now a target for a raft of top clubs - Liverpool included - with Frankfurt preparing to cash in this summer.

That’s according to a new report in Fussball Daten - which claims Manchester City and Tottenham are also among Larsson’s Premier League suitors.

Hugo Larsson is Liverpool's ideal midfield addition

“Frankfurt is expected to open negotiations for Hugo Larsson with a bid in the range of €60 to €70 million,” the report reads.

“Some German sources report that, given the player's enormous potential and the interest from Premier League clubs, the bidding war could reach as high as €80 million.

“It is said that Manchester City have made "first contact" with Larsson and see him as a player who could reduce Rodri's workload and seamlessly integrate his playmaking qualities into their system.

“While Liverpool view Larsson as an "ideal addition" to complete their midfield overhaul, leaked information suggests that Tottenham are prepared to break their club transfer record for the player.”

Larsson wants up to £216k per week

The report also mentions interest from Atletico Madrid while also disclosing that Larsson has rejected a move to Al-Ittihad for career-oriented reasons.

He will be looking for a net salary of between €5m and €7m (around £154k to £216k per week) wherever he ends up next season and Man City as well as the Reds are expected to sit at the negotiation table in the near future.

“Larsson, who emphasizes how happy he is in Frankfurt, would likely demand a net annual salary of €5 to €7 million should he move to a mega-club,” the report reads.

“It remains a realistic possibility that Manchester City or Liverpool will approach the negotiating table with a package of €60 million plus bonuses.”

Larsson is signed up until 2029 with Frankfurt - putting the Bundesliga side in total control of their star midfielder’s next move.

It’s not the first time Liverpool have been linked - but they will need to get a move on now that he is being targetted by several top outfits.
