Three teams fighting to sign Liverpool contract rebel
Andoni Iraola has reportedly pledged to give all his Liverpool players a fresh start when preseason commences.
The outgoing Premier League champions return to work next week ahead of flying out to the United States for their preseason tour. Iraola will be initially working with a reduced group - given several stars’ participation in the FIFA World Cup stateside.
Among the players tipped to take advantage has been Curtis Jones.
Curtis Jones' Inter deal hangs in the balance
Some observers may have expected the 25-year-old to be an Inter Milan player by now but it looks as though the Italian champions are moving on to other targets.
Inter have so far refused to meet Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes’ £35m valuation of the England international - sticking to their bid of around £21m.
With Jones out of contract in 2027 the Reds are running out of time to cash in on their homegrown playmaker before his deal expires.
Galatasaray enter the bidding for Curtis Jones
It’s not been ruled out that Jones will end up staying at his boyhood club and inking a new deal. But aside from Inter there are other clubs reported to be interested in adding the two-time Premier League winner.
Nottingham Forest’s interest at this stage is well-documented although Jones looks certain to decline that move. And a report in the Liverpool Echo is now claiming that Galatasaray are a suitor for Jones.
Inter and Forest deals look impossible
“The midfield, too, is an area of intrigue, although Liverpool are unlikely to properly pursue any deals unless one or more of the current senior engine room is moved on, Curtis Jones - in the last 12 months of his contract - the most obvious potential sale with Inter Milan, Nottingham Forest and Galatasaray among the clubs interested,” the report reads.
Jones will probably still be a Liverpool player by the time preseason kicks off but whether that holds until the final day of the transfer window remains to be seen.
Inter may well stretch out their interest until deadline day before attempting to provoke the Merseysiders into a late, bargain deal. In the meantime
Galatasaray may well get their chance to line up and attempt to conclude a deal for Liverpool’s No17.
