Liverpool transfer news: Entourage jets in as Reds strike massive agreement
Liverpool have agreed a massive deal, and the player's entourage are already on their way.
Richard Hughes has a huge summer ahead of him in order to balance the Reds' attack and get the club back on the right track.
When Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool were at their best, everything just worked. The squad had a bit of everything. They were physical enough to bully teams, fit enough to press relentlessly, technical enough to dominate the ball and, crucially, quick enough to punish opponents in an instant.
That's what made them so difficult to stop. Every player seemed to complement the others, and the whole system clicked into place. If one area wasn't working, another would make up for it.
At the moment, that balance has disappeared a little.
There's still loads of quality in the squad and nobody can question the effort of the players, but it feels like Liverpool are missing one or two key ingredients. The biggest one is pace.
Think back to Klopp's best teams. Sadio Mane was a nightmare for defenders because he was always threatening to get in behind. Even when he wasn't scoring, his movement and speed created space for everyone else. Luis Diaz brought something similar when he first arrived. Defenders hated being isolated against him because one burst of acceleration could completely change a game.
Liverpool don't really have that same threat anymore. Too often over the last couple of seasons, they've come up against teams sitting deep and struggled to stretch them, or faced high defensive lines without having the runners to exploit the space behind.
That's why Hughes' priorities this summer feel pretty obvious. Liverpool need to bring more pace back into the attack. They need players who can beat defenders one-on-one, make runs that force back lines deeper and add a bit more unpredictability in the final third.
If Liverpool can rediscover that balance, they'll become a much more dangerous team again. The technical quality is already there. Now it's about adding the speed and explosiveness that made Klopp's best sides so exciting to watch and so difficult to play against.
Of course, one of the most important things Liverpool will have to do is to retain their key players.
This summer has been about the loss of Mo Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate. More could follow suit.
In this environment, Liverpool are going to have to keep some of the squad together for unity. New signings are needed but to keep the core of the squad together is even more important.
With Virgil van Dijk likely departing for pastures new upon the expiry of his contract at the end of next season, Liverpool are going to have to think long-term about the direction of the club.
Robertson has left so there is no vice captain. Who could possibly lead Liverpool into the future?
Well, there's only one real solution and that is Dominik Szoboszlai. He is in the prime of his career at 25-years-old and he had a contract until 2028 already agreed with Liverpool.
But there have been discussions since November over a renewal. Anfield Watch broke the news that Szoboszlai has now struck an agreement and that he will sign new terms with the Reds.
We can also reveal that Szoboszlai's entourage has now jetted over to Liverpool in order to sign the contract and also take photos and participate in Liverpool media duties as it is customary for such an agreement.
Sure, new signings are significant but this is probably the most important deal of the summer. Liverpool simply had to get this one done and it's massive that they were able to do it.
