€25m title-winning right-back is coming to Liverpool

Liverpool’s right-back situation has been a mess all season.

Trent Alexander-Arnold left for Real Madrid last summer in a cut-price deal. Conor Bradley was given a new contract and the opportunity to prove himself. Competition was added in the shape of Jeremie Frimpong - a £29.5m signing from Bayer Leverkusen.

But Bradley has been on the sidelines since January while Frimpong has also suffered some injury trouble in his first season at Anfield.

Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Curtis Jones have all been moved from their usual midfield stations to play right-back - while Joe Gomez has had more football than he might have expected.

It all adds up to the sense that the Premier League champions might seek to rectify the situation with a transfer in the summer.

Liverpool linked with €25m Dumfries

And one of the more intriguing options out there is Frimpong’s Netherlands teammate Denzel Dumfries. The right-back-cum-wing-back is under contract at Inter Milan until 2028 - recently helping the Nerazzurri to the Serie A title.

But the 30-year-old is available for only €25m to foreign clubs during July 2026 - surely a tempting prospect for Richard Hughes and Arne Slot.

And now according to a trusted voice in the Dutch media Dumfries WILL be playing for Liverpool next season.

Asked where he thought Dumfries would be playing next season Valentijn Driessen on De Telegraaf’s Kick-off podcast said according to Voetbal Primeur: “Liverpool.

"I have heard those rumors before and I said so then as well.

“There will be no follow-up on this now, but I think it will become clear after the season."

Dumfries is coming to Liverpool

Frimpong has looked an awkward fit at right back - being preferred at right-wing in more recent months.

Ronald Koeman has featured both Frimpong AND Dumfries in his Dutch national team lineup - something we could now see replicated for the Premier League champions in 2026/27.

"In the Dutch national team, you also have Frimpong and Dumfries,” Driessen said.

“So then you always have a good replacement. I think Denzel Dumfries is better defensively than Frimpong."

There are few better experienced options out there than Dumfries - particularly at that price - and the Anfield club would be well advised to get this deal done quickly.
