Chelsea set £52m price tag for Liverpool FAVOURITE
Liverpool have a pretty complete midfield package under Arne Slot, although there is definitely room for improvement if the deal comes along.
Of course, the obvious piece of transfer business could be a new defensive midfielder, because Ryan Gravenberch has had to single-handedly hold down the fort as the club's No.6 this year.

However, potential upgrade could be through bringing in an attacking midfielder. Dominik Szoboszlai works tirelessly on and off the ball, but his lack of goal contributions are a notable concern.
As such, Liverpool could decide to bolster their options in the No. 8 role by using the Hungarian in a deeper role if a proper No. 10 can be added the team.
The latest reports are suggesting that Chelsea might just have the perfect player in mind for us.
Nkunku could finally get his Liverpool move
It was reported just a few days ago that Christopher Nkunku is a player that Liverpool admire and the club will be firmly in the mix if Chelsea decide to let him go this summer.
The Blues have been spending money like it's going out of fashion over the last three years and while a move for the Frenchman in 2023 looked like a great idea at the time, it hasn't worked out well.
Football Insider are reporting that the asking price for him will be £52m, which would help them recoup the money they splashed out on him two years ago when he moved from Leipzig to London.
As far as transfer targets go, Nkunku is a fascinating one. He is capable of playing as a creative midfielder, a right-winger or a centre-forward, which makes him an incredibly option for any team to have, but his form has dropped off big time since he left Germany.
From the heights of his 2021/22 season - 35 goals and 16 assists in 52 games - he has since made just 17 goals and five assists for Chelsea over the last two seasons combined, with almost half of his goal contributions coming in the Conference League, which is UEFA's third tier European competition.
However, it might just be that Nkunku and Chelsea are a bad match and Liverpool could offer him a second chance at success, righting the wrong they made three years ago.
After Michael Edwards had left Liverpool in 2021, Julian Ward stepped up in his place as the club's sporting director, and it has since been revealed that Nkunku was a target before Ward left the role.
Of course, with Jorg Schmadtke then in charge during the summer of 2022, Jurgen Klopp was given free reign to pick Darwin Nunez as the club's new centre-forward instead of the Frenchman.
Liverpool are meticulous with their transfer targets, which are all backed up by extensive data profiles that point the club in the right direction. Nunez, however, was more of a gut-feel pick.
As such, now that Nunez is set to leave this season, and given how much the team would benefit from having a proper creative midfielder, Nkunku might get his long awaited opportunity.

One slight caveat will be that £52m is a hefty price tag for what is essentially a risk that Liverpool would be taking on an under-performing player, so the likelihood of a move under the current conditions if pretty low. But if there is wiggle-room on his fee, then the proposition might be tempting.
