Liverpool are always on the lookout for the best young talents around.

The recent success of Rio Ngumoha demonstrates to potential new recruits that a pathway exists in which they can flourish.

It’s an ongoing process - with Liverpool’s recruitment team scouring the entire globe for the next big thing.

Reports last month suggested that the Reds had discovered a gem in the Gremio academy ranks.

Liverpool tracking Gabriel Menegon

Gabriel Menegon is a giant 16-year-old goalkeeper who looks set for a career right at the very top.

He is involved with his club’s U17 contingent and is also a representative of his national team in that age group. Menegon is expected to form part of Brazil’s U17 World Cup squad with the tournament kicking off in Qatar next month.

Contact was reported between Liverpool and Gremio in the last few weeks over the shot-stopper and now comes decisive news from the Brazilian club.

The goalkeeper has secured a new deal with his club - which will last until September 2028.

Menegon contract includes £4.2m release clause

“Goalkeeper Gabriel Menegon has extended his contract with Tricolor until September 2028. The athlete has been playing in BaseGremista competitions and has been with Grêmio since 2022," a report on Itatiaia reads.

“Menegon's termination fee at Grêmio was set at around R$30 million for Brazilian football.”

Corinthians could be in the hunt for Menegon with the Sao Paulo side credited with interest previously. The R$30m fee equates to around £4.2m at current exchange rates - demonstrating just how highly this young goalkeeper is rated.

Brazil star Menegon set for the very top

His quality is surely going to be noticed once the U17 World Cup kicks off so Liverpool have to think about when they are going to make a move for a young man who could become Alisson’s long-term successor in the Anfield goalmouth.

Alisson is under contract until 2027 - so Liverpool could conceivably strike a deal for Gabriel and leave him on loan at Gremio until he becomes old enough to move to Europe.
