£85m Liverpool midfielder wanted for 'impossible' Galatasaray deal
Liverpool have got question marks over certain midfielders.
Curtis Jones is chief among them - with Inter Milan now closing in on a £30m deal for the homegrown playmaker. Others - such as Stefan Bajcetic and Harvey Elliott - could well depart before the transfer window slams shut.
We could also see loan deals tied up for James McConnell and Trey Nyoni - who are wanted in the Championship and beyond.
All those outgoings could leave Andoni Iraola short of options in the midfield sector - with Wataru Endo providing backup to Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai.
New contract suggested for Alexis Mac Allister
With Gravenberch and Szoboszlai inking new contract deals in recent months it would be a huge surprise to see those two move on.
And it would also raise eyebrows if the Anfield club entertained offers for Alexis Mac Allister - even though he’s only got two years on his current deal.
Mac Allister, 27, has been linked with the exit quite prominently in recent windows - with his level dropping last season from his 2024/25 peak.
But the tide has turned for the Argentina FIFA World Cup winner - with reports now suggesting that the prospect of the playmaker signing a new deal is close.
Liverpool value Mac Allister at £85m
That development would frustrate potential suitors - with a report in Caught Offside claiming Galatasaray have joined Real Madrid and several Premier League sides in the pursuit of Liverpool’s No10.
Liverpool are reported to have slapped an £85m price tag against Mac Allister this summer - emphasising their reluctance to see him leave the club.
That leaves Gala and others in an unfortunate position - with a deal described as “impossible” in the report.
Galatasaray enter running for Mac Allister
“Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid expressed interest earlier in the summer, while Chelsea and Manchester City also made contact in recent weeks,” the report reads.
“His current market value is estimated at €70 million, while Liverpool set a €100 million (£85m) threshold in July, signalling their reluctance to sell.
“Galatasaray are monitoring the Premier League market and have Mac Allister on their radar.
“Yet, given the player’s commitment to Liverpool and the club’s firm position, any move this summer appears impossible.”
Will Macca be first choice?
Mac Allister went all the way to the World Cup final with Argentina and looked a player reborn in the North American tournament.
He featured for a shadow squad in the game against Como on Sunday morning - perhaps indicating that he has got Szoboszlai and Gravenberch to get past in order to regain a starting slot under Andoni Iraola.
No doubt however that the Basque tactico and sporting director Richard Hughes know the kind of talent they have on their hands. No easy deals will be concluded for the £35m signing from Brighton and he looks set to reign on Merseyside for a few seasons more.
