Atletico Madrid come forward for deal as Liverpool prepare to sell midfielder
Big changes are coming to Liverpool’s midfield sector this summer.
The club could be active over incomings with Richard Hughes supposedly eyeing up deals for Adam Wharton and Eduardo Camavinga.
Arne Slot has been relying on the same cast of midfield characters for a couple of seasons now and it has all raised some key questions.
Curtis Jones for example is out of contract in 2027 and it doesn’t appear that he will sign a new deal. We’ve seen Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister both slip beneath their best standards - set during the 2024/25 Premier League title-winning campaign.
And while Gravenberch has been tied down to a new contract worth a reported £277k per week doubts are gathering over Mac Allister.
No new deal for Mac Allister
The 27-year-old was signed in 2023 from Brighton - inking a deal until 2028.
In an ideal world Liverpool would have a new contract prepared for a key performer but there are reasons to believe that a deal will remain out of reach.
Mac Allister has yet to recapture his optimum form and rather than watch his value diminish any further the club could take a decision to sell him soon.
According to a report in Football Insider the Merseysiders are prepared to sell the Argentina FIFA World Cup winner in the upcoming off-season.
Atletico Madrid enter race for Mac Allister
And as well as long-term suitors Real Madrid city rivals Atletico Madrid under Diego Simeone are reported to be seeking a deal.
“The Argentina international has two years left on his current contract at Anfield, and talks over a new deal had previously been held but have now stalled ahead of the summer,” the report reads.
“Liverpool could sell Mac Allister this summer as Real and Atletico Madrid each eye a move.”
Liverpool will be reasonably optimistic of banking a good fee for Mac Allister - which could then be put towards a replacement.
The latest name in the frame alongside Wharton and Camavinga is Enzo Le Fee - with Sunderland open to doing business for the gifted Frenchman at £35m.
