AC Milan now WAITING for answer in deal for Liverpool star
Liverpool will soon need to solve several problems at centre-back.
Their most pressing priority is of course sorting out a new contract for Ibrahima Konate. The 26-year-old is out of contract in summer 2026 - and if no new deal is agreed then the France international will be leaving on a free.
And a long-term successor needs to be found for Virgil van Dijk - with the Reds’ captain now 34 and out of contract in summer 2027.
Those changes got underway last summer with the signing of Giovanni Leoni while more investments have been made in young defenders this January.
Noah Adekoya, Talla Ndiaye and Ifeanyi Ndukwe will form a quartet of very promising stoppers alongside Leoni in the years ahead - meaning big changes are coming to the centre-back department.

AC Milan want deal for Joe Gomez
That means we could see older options like Joe Gomez moved on. The 28-year-old is Liverpool’s longest-serving player and remains under contract until 2027.
The club listened to offers for the versatile defender last summer and it appears that they may be receptive to a bid in what’s left of the January window too.
AC Milan are the team most likely to strike - with sporting director Igli Tare now pondering a bid for the England international.
Milan waiting for OK from Gomez
He is among three options listed for the Rossoneri by Calciomercato - alongside Nottingham Forest’s Murillo and Chelsea’s Axel Disasi.
Right now Milan are said to be waiting for an indication from Gomez that he would like to move to San Siro - and that would in turn trigger an official approach.
Gomez has been used more frequently than he might have expected this term by Arne Slot as the head coach grapples with injury trouble.
Will LFC cash in on Gomez?
The two-time Premier League winner has played at centre-back and right-back for the Anfield side this season and his versatility is certainly valued.
It will be interesting to see how Richard Hughes responds to an official approach. With the countdown on for Gomez’s contract this year represents the final opportunity for the club to cash in.
