Liverpool star set to ENTER talks with German coach
Liverpool's star midfielder is set for key talks about his future according to a recent report.
A new season has brought new challenges for the entire Liverpool team. These are testing times for Arne Slot as he tries to figure out the best possible formation and system for the players he has at his disposal.
It's also a testing time for players who will want to be playing more minutes, but who have to succumb to the whim of Slot's limited rotation.
At this moment in time, it feels like the Dutchman doesn't necessarily trust all of his players entirely.
But that cannot go on forever. Liverpool are a team that want to be successful on all fronts and that means rotation is absolutely going to be necessary for the success of the club.
Among the players who probably hasn't been given as many opportunities as he deserves is Curtis Jones. The England international has performed to a really high standard every time he has been given an opportunity.
But he is favoured over Alexis Mac Allister right now, even though the Argentine is not in the greatest of forms.
Jones was given just 11 minutes against Real Madrid and 16 minutes against Manchester City in Liverpool's last two games.
This is in spite of the fact that Liverpool deployed the same midfield in both games, so naturally Slot probably would have been better off rotating a bit more and getting fresher legs onto the pitch, especially in the second game against City.
Unfortunately, that was not the case and Jones will have been left frustrated.
The 24-year-old is now an experienced player in the squad. He's been one of Liverpool's best progressive players. With his composure on the ball, he is definitely somebody who warrants a starting berth.
Jones' lack of playing time has also had an impact on his international future. He's missed out on call-ups to England's last three international camps.
With the World Cup coming up next year, dreams of his potential participation in the tournament seem to be slipping away.
The Daily Mail now report that Jones is set to enter talks with Thomas Tuchel in the coming few weeks in order to establish his future for England and what he needs to do in order to get back into the team.
Time is obviously running out with the next camp in March before Tuchel has to name his preliminary England squad for the finals in late May.
A lot can change until then. Jones will be determined to get himself in the reckoning, and also fight his way into the starting line-up at Liverpool.
