Liverpool scouts regularly attend games to watch 'fast' wonderkid

Liverpool have their eyes on a lot of players ahead of the January transfer window.

The Anfield outfit made four new signings in the summer and, while all of them have managed to improve the Reds' ranks, it's clear that some more changes still need to be made.

That's because there are still a fair few areas among their ranks that are lacking in depth with some of their starters even failing to perform to the standards expected.

Obviously, they can't go out and spend another £150 million but, if they see a market opportunity or desperately need to bring someone new in for one of their current players, there's no doubt that Liverpool will make their move.

So, the fact that their scouts are being sent out to watch several players across the globe on a regular basis is hardly surprising.

One of Liverpool's main problem positions last term was their right-back.

Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley were both consistently side-lined due to injury which resulted in Dominik Szobsoszlai, Wataru Endo and Curtis Jones all being used as a full-back.

Obviously, Joe Gomez would've been the best player for them to use there but, since he's also rather injury prone, he was barely ever available for selection either.

This led to Ronald Araujo being signed by Liverpool and, even though he's doing a solid job as Iraola's right-back, the Reds' €55 million option to buy may end up feeling a tad too steep for them to activate.

That is, especially since the Uruguayan will be 28 years old next June.

Many different right-backs have been linked, however, according to FR Fans, Liverpool's eye may be on one full-back in particular.

"In Rotterdam, the financial rule is often that you have to sell to grow. But with the intense English interest in Givairo Read and Gjivai Zechiël, Technical Director Dévy Rigaux will soon face a problem," they wrote.

"After all, what do you do if the Premier League comes knocking for both players in January?

"The English rumour mill is running at full speed. Scouts from Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester City regularly sit in the stands to watch Read, while the list of clubs interested in Oranje squad debutant Zechiël is also growing longer.

"Together, the two Rotterdammers now represent well over 60 million euros.

"Although such a mega-deal would cause the bank account at De Kuip to explode in one fell swoop, a departure midway through the season would completely destroy Giovanni van Bronckhorst 's team."

Givairo Read could be the perfect successor for Trent Alexander-Arnold

Although Araujo has helped improve Liverpool's defence, going forward, he's far from the best.

Obviously, the 27 year olds natural position is as a centre-back so, on the attack, there are certainly some improvements he could make.

There have been times this season when he's tried to run down the by-line and ping the ball into the box but, more often than Liverpool would like, he's never made it past the first man.

This is obviously a problem as, even though Iraola uses wingers in his system, he also relies on his full-backs to create chances, as proven with Milos Kerkez at Bournemouth.

So, in reality, Trent Alexander-Arnold would have been perfect for the Spaniard. However, since that ship has now sailed, Liverpool are going to have to turn their attention elsewhere, which is where Read comes in.

The "fast" Dutchman is only 20 years old so, while he may not be a finished product just yet, the talent that he has proven he already has is second-to-none.

In attack or in defence, he's quickly become one of Feyenoord's most important players and, since the Eredivisie outfit are often a club who sells their most talented players, a deal could definitely be struck in the future.

Here's hoping that Liverpool manage to get this deal over the line and beat other teams such as Bayern Munich and Manchester City to his transfer.
